Man Murdered Wife, Shot Daughter After Being Sucked Down ‘Q Rabbit Hole,’ Family Confirms

A Michigan man’s obsession with the pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy theory culminated in a Sunday incident in which he murdered his wife and badly injured one of his children, his daughter told The Daily Beast.

Igor Lanis, a 53-year-old resident of the Michigan city of Walled Lake, was killed Sunday by police after he started shooting at them with a shotgun, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the injured child, a 25-year-old woman, managed to call police around 4:11 a.m. after being shot by her father.

Sad news.

RIP to his wife and best wishes for a swift and full recovery to his child he injured.

This is just one extreme example of how Q-addicts lose the plot and destroy relationships around them.

There are countless families dealing with family members addicted to Q-Anon and other rightwing lies and fantasy.

Mass psychosis at work.

Extremism of any kind is dangerous. The article is clearly a tool to attack the ex President yet again, and those that support the popular America first agenda, by misrepresenting violence as being only from these Q nutcases/Trump supporters which is false. A balanced article would clearly state there have also been many deaths and serious injury at BLM protests, as well as burns no doubt.

Disturbing what some gullible people believe, this guy killed his wife and nearly killed his daughter because of taking in some of the very dangerous conspiracy theories promoted on QAnon. To the point that he believed some world leaders were alien lizard people, he forced his family to watch videos on 5G cell towers, vaccines and the election.

As his daughter said:

“But then after 2020, when Trump lost, he started going down these crazy rabbit holes.”

The article also cites other horrendous murders carried out because of people believing the crazy theories, including "A California man who allegedly murdered his 10-month-old daughter and 2-year-old son in Mexico told police that his crimes were motivated by QAnon"

Trump has been "retruthing" (i.e. retweeting)  QAnon conspiracy posts on Truth Social.

How wrong you are.  First, BLM is not a cult and it's not based on conspiracies.  Second, you might want to look at the number of acts of violence in the name of Trump:

'No Blame?' ABC News finds 54 cases invoking 'Trump' in connection with violence, threats, alleged assaults.

a nationwide review conducted by ABC News has identified at least 54 criminal cases where Trump was invoked in direct connection with violent acts, threats of violence or allegations of assault.

ABC News could not find a single criminal case filed in federal or state court where an act of violence or threat was made in the name of President Barack Obama or President George W. Bush.

Republicans can’t win a National election with their policy that benefits the richest Americans so they have to build a coalition of gullible fools to get them over the finish line.

To win, invite the bigots, racists, homophobes, uneducated, conspiracy nuts, religious fanatics into the Republicans big tent.
A coalition of weirdos.

I am not sure it's correct to say Republicans can't do it.  I think it's that rather large and scary part of the Republican party that follow Trump and MAGA.  Unfortunately, the MAGA crowd live in a binary world, you are either with them or against them.  I know a lot of RINOs (Republican in Name Only) that would like to see the party get back to its fundamental values.  Unfortunately, their voices are drowned out.  Remember, an empty drum makes the most noise.

You could have written: Yes, there are millions of Q nutcases who also support the constant lies of the traitor. But no, for you it's only important that those are not the only nutcases in the USA.

Good luck with your democracy, the best money can buy, over there.

The old-school Republicans are not the RINOs.  The current Republican party is a RINO.

With regards to ‘a balanced article’, I’m more aligned with some of the other replies: it would be off-topic and contrived.

Yes, if only it was confined to the right-wing fringe of the US. You know, as opposed to being ripe in the supposedly ‘better-educated’ part of the political spectrum…

…all those non-psychotic decent ‘liberal-minded’ people who genuinely advocate extreme anti-science BS about basic human biology.

And those lovely individuals who genuinely believe in conspiracy of a Racist Patriarchy.

Not all BLM members are unhinged violent, looting criminals.

Now, for the benefit of some other more excitable posters above, this self-evident statement can easily be applied in many different relevant contexts. Here we go:

Not all Republicans are Trump supporters

Not all Trump voters are ‘baaaad’ - he was one of two choices

Not all Trump supporters are Q-Anon believers

Not all Q-Anon believers are hardcore

Not all hardcore Q-Anon believers are violent

Not all violet nutcases are murderers.

Why? Who said they were low / high? And what good would it do to try and add up acts of violence ‘in the name of’ some other thing…e.g. BLM was mentioned.

You can’t even get your whataboutary right.

The existence of mass psychosis amongst the extreme rightwing stands independent of mass psychosis elsewhere.

The biggest RINO of them all is a certain DJ Trump.  How the GOP can't see this is beyond me.

Thanks for stating the obvious.  We can say that people who fall for the Nigerian scam are not all idiots.  They just seem like they are.  Same with Trump supporters.

What does it mean for a QAnon believer not to be hardcore? Are there some beliefs special to QAnon that are rational and evidence based?

Anyone defending Qanon ought to get their head checked. Isolating in your echo chamber is how Qanon conspiracies fester.

Talk about setting lax standards. Less than 100% is negligible? What percentage to your way of thinking would be cause for concern?

Anyway, it looks like if someone is going to believe in Donald Trump, they're obliged to believe in MAGA and The Storm.

Trump Embraces QAnon ‘Storm is Coming’ Meme: ‘It’s Almost Like He’s Trying to Tell Us Something

Ex-president Donald Trump went on a “Retruthing” spree on Truth Social Monday night into Tuesday that prominently included a QAnon meme featuring his image, wearing a Q pin on his lapel, over the messages “the storm is coming” and “WWG1WGA.”

His retruth (the Truth Social equivalent of a retweet) is his most direct embrace of QAnon’s conspiracy theory focusing on him since the launch of his Truth Social.

The “storm” is a reference to the Q conspiracy theorist community’s belief that sooner or later Trump is going to unveil or unleash his secret plan to defeat all the enemies of MAGA and the deep state and, presumably, return to power in a sweaty Mike Lindell dream come to life.

Just Mediocre to low level tin foil hat conspiracy nut I guess? You would have to start what is the least ridiculous Qanon belief I guess and go from there lol.

The fact that he would even make a statement like that pretty much tells you all you need to know IMHO. ????
