A 63 year old motorcycle taxi rider called Subin Waitook got far less than he bargained for after agreeing to take a farang to Central Bang Na.

 

The agreed fee was 300 baht but when they got there the foreigner changed the goalposts and said they wanted to be taken back to Bearing BTS.

 

Expecting to be paid a newly agreed 450 baht Subin held out his hand.

 

Instead of Thai money the foreigner handed him what he thought was a 20 Euro coin. 

 

That would more than cover the journey, thought Subin as the foreigner hurriedly went up the BTS staircase and out of sight.

Subin went back to the rank as proud as Punch only to get the sucker punch when he inquired of a buddy how much the coin was really worth.

 

He was informed that he had been a bit of a plonker. The coin was a 20 cent coin making his windfall worth not 700+ baht but precisely 7.36 baht at yesterday's rates. 

 

Not surprisingly the "win" advised people to only accept fares in baht:

 

"How are we to know what foreign money is worth?", he lamented.

Before relating another tale of woe as to how a separate farang had asked him to take her to Robinson's from her hotel, didn't pay, asked to be taken back, then only paid 70 baht rather than double for the round trip, reported 77kaoded.

 

Now he has the picture of a 20 cent Euro coin on his phone for posterity.

He's probably getting some pay back having been ripped off by another taxi driver.

I thought only farangs get conned in thailand,,,,

He got conned. Maybe nearest Bhudda temple can explain it. Could it be Karma?

Hahahahaha that is a very good one too. People always do better taking the 10 baht coins to Europe, looking like 2 euro, to then get beers at bars at night free.

So, you think it´s ok for a foreigner to scam a moto-taxi driver, just because your cabbie, won´t turn on the meter. Or did you just try to be tough?

Bad folks like this, is exactly what we do not need in Thailand. Hope a gang of Win-drivers will see him walking somewhere.

Oh cry me a river, scammers come from everywhere, certainly more Thais scamming Thais than the seldom farang like this. Prefer to get rid of whiners like you, as scammers suck so much in life, they leave themselves sooner or later.

I don't condone what the falang did. Subin could be one of the better riders and was just making an honest living and if so, does not deserve what happened. But, on the other hand, it is somewhat amusing to find that the boot is sometimes on the other foot.

Nice apologizing for the bad foreigner, by mentioning that Thais are worse. You really know how to make it sound good. Did it disappear from your knowledge know?

Nothing ventured nothing gained, that's  what happened when you trying to con someone ???????? 300bt for that  less distance? there's a real story to this until we can hear from both side anyway????‍♂️????‍♂️

Bearing to central taking short cuts should have been no more than 100 baht, who was scamming who?

And now that farang will always have to look over his shoulder when he is somewhere near that area.

10 or so years ago I needed to be collected from a local train station, where I planned to drop my motorbike off for something later that day. Instead of trying to find, waiting for, or giving business to the win riders near the train station, I invited a guy from my local rank to follow me and pick me up. Therefore making directions back really simple, and keeping the business as local as possible. The <deleted> wanted to charge me double, because he had to ride there and back... claiming that he was unable to earn any (other) money in either direction.

 

That was the last time I every gave him any business! ????

Be lucky if its even 100bht in a taxi meter,serves him right for trying to cheat him in the first place.

Boo hoo! Now you know how it feels to be us! Foreigners get conned regularly and we just let it slide. If you're that desperate for 20 or 30 baht, farangs just say 'you can have it because you probably need it more than me'. But when it happens to you, the crying starts.

it seems in my decades in Thailand i have not been ripped off enough to enjoy any sense of schadenfreude here.

you may, my experience differs.

And wear glasses handling local notes... that Songthaew driver made off with a red thousand note at Samrong, when it should've been a hundred, silly me. Even sillier that I should've chased it up at the local depot. IDIOT
