A Chonburi official caught her 29-year-old female secretary who had allegedly been stealing her money in her bedroom for the last five years, worth over 10 million baht.

 

The suspect was a secretary to the female mayor of the Nong Mai Daeng subdistrict in Chonburi’s Mueang district, Mrs. Tuangthip Phawasutchaikit. She brought CCTV footage of her own secretary, Ms. Sunanta Suebkaew (29), allegedly stealing money from her bedroom to file a report at the Don Hua Lo police station, leading to Sunanta’s arrest.

 

In the CCTV footage, Sunanta was clearly seen rummaging all over her boss’s bedroom and stealing money every day for over 21 times, the Don Hua Lo police revealed. The mayor said she did not notice anything about her missing cash over the past five years until a big sum of money — sometimes 5,000 baht and even 20,000 baht — began to mysteriously disappear from her bedroom.

How does 10 million baht get stolen from some ones ‘bedroom stash’ and only get noticed after 5 years. 

How much was there exactly ???? An awful lot... if 38,500 baht disappearing every week took so long until she started investigating...

Wait up here, could be the mayor ordered her maid to go into the bedroom and find her money for her? Had the maid search around every morning knowing the maid would do as told. What you see has a simple explanation.

The report says that only very small amounts were taken, which obviously added up over the years, and it was only when larger sums went missing that she knew for sure that someone was stealing from her.

What is she, a robber, a secretary or a house slave. Why is a secretary "working in her formal capacity" in the mayor's house anyway and not based in the formal publicly funded mayoral office setting. Another official using the public purse to fund her personal home based fifedom.

PM has amassed obscene billions , you think he would notice pocket change going missing ? I'd be more interested in seeing the 5 million gone missing bank details of payment in the officials account and withdrawal of it - otherwise it sounds like 'bung' money

That "Mayoral secretary" sure looks like a housekeeper in those clothes.  It'd also explain what she's doing at the Mayor's house every day instead of at the office.

Perhaps a maid being being paid for with city funds?

Did the Mayor explain how she had 10 million in cash lying around on an annual salary of (i'm guessing) 100k.

Yes indeed, the whole thing smells rather fishy? Surely any normal person would report the theft immediately? But I suppose Government officials aren't normal, hiding in plain site 10 million is rather odd?

I mean why didn't she deposit it in a bank? ????

And one morning, the "maid" turned up, spoke to her boss and said:

had no need to open that particular box in 5 years maybe, plenty more elsewhere, and found it was a little light in contents.

The mayor was obviously floating in so much cash, she never even missed a few thousand here, and a few thousand there. She has only herself to blame. A few times, and you are sleeping. More than a few times, and you are truly out to lunch, unconscious, and beyond help. 

Cash is King 

The figure of 10 million baht seems excessive  and if she had the money lying around and took 5 years to notice it was disappearing

All illicit gains are under the mattress.. banks have a tendency to record transactions.

date stamp on this still is 2020-08-30 so is over 2 years old.

Unless cctv clock was wrongly set up.

How busy is sub-district boss to have a secretary.

Why secretary is not in the office in the governmental building, but in a private house and with access to bedroom? Private parts of building are for family members only. Was secretary a family member to her boss?

Why there is no safe and hidden places for keeping valuables?

 

So within the last few months a large 5-30k started to disappear on several occasions and cctv is installed around a month ago. Why wait a month to report to police, if daily records were checked often, presumably every day. 

There is no way  to prove for how long secretary was stealing and how much. It can be judged only on what is on recordings, so around tens of thousands.

Unless police find hard proof of bank transfers from secretary or assess her wealth. It's not easy 10mln to become unnoticed, hidden somewhere.

And the last question - how 2mln per year can disappear from sub-district boss doing officially much less, max 40k/month so 480k/year.

   

 

From past experience.  I caught my ex gf doing this.  It was not until a large sum went missing that I noticed.

 

It started with a couple of thousand then grew.  Probably the same thing here.

 

I think they are basing the amount on the video footage.  I am sure the amount is smaller but unless she kept track they will nevy know BUT 10 million gets you readithe article

Yes, so much cash she couldn't properly keep track of it and for some reason (ha) unwilling to put it in the bank leaving a paper trail. Assuming the secretary only stole an amount she guessed wouldn't be noticed - 5 - 10% at most, that adds up to enormous amount just laying about.

similar thing happened to my wife's friend. She used to get large amounts of cash out to pay staff for their business but noticed quickly it was always short when she re-counted it. Turned out to be the her sister-in-law stealing from them (who was staying with them). What really rubs salt into the wound is that the sister-in-law ran up close to 10m baht worth of debts that my wife's friend and her husband must take responsibility for (pressure from the husbands mother to be a good son and look after his sister). So not only are this couple paying off the sister-in-law's debts but the sister-in-law is stealing from them too. But in typical Thai style all is forgiven and onwards they go...
