Hi!

I'm quite sure this question has been asked before, and I'm sorry for bringing it up again. But I didn't know where else to look.

Anyways: I've been in Thailand for a long time now, before just on tourist visas, but now on business visa (and investigating business opportunities for sure).

I used to live with my ex Thai gf and she would do ADSL internet from True in her name for the apartment. I wanted to get it in my name, but True require that farangs have a work permit.

But now I have a one year multiple entry business visa. Would that help me out in any way? I mean... the business visa is intended for foreigners to visit Thailand to explore business opportunities. How can anyone do that without access to the Internet in 2007?

Is there any recommended solution for someone in my situation? Other companies that don't require a work permit? Or will True grant me ADSL now when I have a business visa?

I am in need of fast Internet. Currently I'm using 2500/512 which is fine, but dial-up solutions are not an option.

Also, I've tested to use my EDGE phone with DTAC and connect it to my laptop, but the speed is ridiculously low at around normal modem speed, sometimes even less. Does anyone have better experience with some of the other GPRS/EDGE providers in Bangkok?

I would be very grateful for any suggested solution to my problem.

I think True is one of the few ISP's requiring their foreign customers to have a work permit.

I'm on Maxnet (TT&T, only available upcountry) and only passport copies of picture and visa page were needed. They never even looked at the original.

Same some years ago when I was on Ji-net, same requirement, no mention of workpermit...

I'm using Edge as well, both Dtac and AIS (I just switch Sim card when one gets too slow) and at times it works brilliant, at other times it's dead slow, mostly on weekends...

I have had TRUE broadband (cable) here in Chiang Mai for nearly a year now and I subscribed to it when I was on a tourist visa. This is the first time I have heard of the work permit requirement. For once, I was lucky?
