les1 Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 My wife & I have a 60 day multi entry tourist visa. Can this be renewed at immigration rather than going out. She has had a fall & struggles to walk so any trip out is pointless, .
ubonjoe Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 You can apply for a 30 day extension of each entry from your visa. You cannot get a new entry without leavening the country. If your wife is getting medical care and the hospital and/or a doctor she can apply for a extension for that reason that can be issued for up to 90 days with documents stating she cannot travel. 1 1
Liquorice Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 To expand on what UJ stated. You can both initially apply for a 30-day extension to your current 60-day permission of stay. If your wife still isn't able to travel towards the end of the 30 day extension, you can both apply for a 90 day extension on medical grounds, (her as the patient, you as the carer), but would need a letter from a doctor stating she is unable to travel, and you are her carer. 1 1

Thank you both for your input can you also tell me the nearest border crossing to Chiang Mai that is open. Does anyone do Visa runs at the moment?

BritTim Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Note that if you, or your wife, is over the age of 50, there is another possible option. You can apply at Immigration to "convert" to a Non Immigrant visa on the basis of retirement. This initially gives you a 90 day permission to stay, which can then easily be extended for a year at a time. The main requirement is 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account. If you want to know more about this option, just ask. Many of us here are very familiar with the process. 1
les1 Posted October 10, 2022 Author Posted October 10, 2022 Are there any minibuses from Chiang Rai to Chiamg Kong border I know that there are local buses?
