Sanook Thai Caption: Store selling for 30MB

 

Sanook reported on the fate of a gorilla that has been held in a cage at a Pin Klao shopping center for 30 years for the public to gawk at.

 

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment want to arrange for "Bua Noi" to be taken to a project in Germany where the gorilla could be with others from the same species.

 

They are sure that would be a better way for Bua Noi to spend the golden years.

 

Bua Noi has been cooped up alone with no fellow gorillas for three decades.

 

Donations have been sought but a major stumbling block exists.

 

The owner will only sell for 30 million baht. 

 

So unless someone comes up with that kind of money Bua Loi's retirement with relatives in Germany looks on hold.

 

The owner brought Bua Noi legally to Thailand before legislation kicked in to protect such animals. 

 

The ministry has been powerless to do anything despite many complaints from the public and animal lovers about the condition of Bua Loi, the only gorilla in Thailand.

Foreigners can be hit with retroactive tightening of their visa conditions.

But this animal abuser can't be taken responsible?

In other cases Thai jurisdiction is so "inventive".

she is 33, lifespan in captivity is up to 50, in the wild is 35-40.

Depending how good/bad was her keeper she might not have much time to live.

Boycott campaign to not shop at PATA would free her within a month, without any need for public funds.

 

The mote you read stuff like this the more you realise what a place.

Cancel the licence to have her on public display and refuse any certificate to move her unless to a designated ZOO . The owner  might complain but use the law to sort out the problem and stop be polite Thai AUTHORITIES  

Yeah I remember on TV a BBC reporter was doing a story about it I believe the government should take legal action and just tell the guy hey we’re taking your gorilla we’re not gonna pay 30 million the people of Thailand to do something because the rest of the world this does not look like a good thing let the gorilla go to Germany TIT

A very sad story indeed. It shows how useless the authorities are when they can't even save a gorilla. I am sure that the gorilla must be mentally unstable after 30 years in virtual isolation.

They should put the owner in a cage for everyone to gawk at...

Totally agree, the greedy a/whole should pay for the cost to transport the poor animal. Maybe a few monks should go talk with him and  explain about "Tam Boon"

This is quite a good story to make comparisons between home and Thailand .

   Back in the U.K. people would never accept this kind of happening .

Either the authorities would put a stop to it , or the people would boycott the store or animal rights group would  attack the stores owner .

Need to Cher involved. Did she not save an elephant in similar circumstances earlier this year.

Thailand's leaders invented Article 44, strengthened some other law in the 110-119 range and outlawed other stuff pre-dating the law.

This poor primate is a pristine example of Thainess and I mean the official Thainess and not the one being practiced by millions of lovely kind people in this land. 

If raping by a pedophile would be made illegal now, you still could go and take a culprit to the cleaners for issues which predate the law - just saying! 

Get that primate out and let's hope (s)he will survive any trip to any less brutal, more common-sense making land. Absolutely despicable ........

Surely there are laws regarding keeping an animal in unsuitable conditions, aka animal cruelty, alternatively people could protest by not going to the shopping center. I wonder how many ways the 30 million is to be split, such a lot of money can confuse some authorities about moral duty.

The problem is though, the moment that he gets released, "into the wild" as it is, he will be dead within a very short time.

Either by the "other gorillas" rejecting / killing him, OR, by him seeking the only company, that he has known for 30 years, and similarly dying as a result.

Jane Goodall showed this, when a young gorilla's mother died, and shortly after the young gorilla died of a broken heart !

There is NO satisfactory solution to this problem !

Only constant human supervision/care, within a carefully controlled gorilla group, MAY have some possibility of success.

It's not going to be released i to the wild.  Where did you get that idea?  It's going to a state of the art sanctuary and be cared for by professional primate keepers.

This is absolutely disgusting and wicked of the so called Greedy Owner. Why buy something he knows he cannot take good care....That's animal cruelty. Prays the Ape mental health is ok..
