Former film producer Harvey Weinstein appears in court at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Centre in Los Angeles, California, USA, 04 October 2022

An actress and model identified as Jane Doe 1 accused former Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault during the first day of his Los Angeles rape trial.

She tearfully recounted being forced to perform oral sex on Weinstein after he turned up at her hotel room following a film festival event in 2013.

The woman was the first to take the stand on Monday in the trial, following opening statements from his legal team.

Why would she open her hotel room door to that creep?

He was, at the time, an extremely powerful person in the industry who could make or break careers.

If that was the price to pay, was it worth it to be an actress?

For many, it was worth it.  For others, they were forced or coerced into a sexual relation.   That is the reason he is being charged with rape.  If it was worth it, she, and others, would have complied without complaint.

I didn't think that counted as rape.

It's rape as long as there is penetration of an orifice, so vagina, anus or mouth constitutes rape.
