Cha Am – Hua Hin – Pranburi bypass road set for major upgrade

The bypass road which spans Cha Am, Hua Hin and Pranburi is set for a major upgrade, the Department of Highways (DoH) have announced.

 

The upgrade will see the road be expanded to six lanes – three on each side – as well as concrete barriers being installed along the route.

 

The upgrade of the 47.3-kilometre road, known officially as Highway No.37, will cost 7 billion baht and will be completed by 2025, the DOH said.

 

Once completed, the new road will help to alleviate congestion in the region, particularly during holidays and weekends.

It would be a good idea to cost in a link from this road into Hua HIn by-passing Cha Am. There is a significant amount of traffic into Cha Am at the weekend visiting the town, but this is compounded by all the traffic heading for Hua HIn.

You kind of can... Keep on the 37 (AH2) and exit at Pala U road

Yes, correct and thank you for pointing that out.  Unfortunately it isn't made clear that you don't need to add to the congestion in Cha Am to get directly to Hua HIn. DoH don't have to do anything other than change the sign I posted above. Such as  Hua HIn - shortcut - by passing Cha Am.  Is it a shortcut though ?

Seems like a giant waste/money grab to me.  It would be nice to not have any cross traffic when on 37, but reality, it isn't much difference if going TO Hua Hin.

 

Just Gmapped it for now, and 31 minutes if using 4 direct, with 32 & 40 minutes using alternate routes using 37, using Centara as a destination.  Friday night to Sunday evening to/from are going to suck no matter what is done.

 

On a 47 km stretch, doing 120 vs 90 isn't going to amount to much time saved.  Especially if going to Hua Hin, as you'd only be on it for half the distance, IF they put exits along the way.  Traveling more kms at higher speed is a be defeating.

Even though it adds a few extra KM to my drive to the house in Southern HH/Pranburi Area from BKK we always use 37 unless we need to stop at Bluport for something the mad hairdresser needs......Highway 4 can be a nightmare as there is no way around town.

It depends where you go in Hua Hin. For me it is. But even if some kms more, if Cha Am is congested, it probably stays as a time saver.

Coming back from Krung Thep to PKK, I usually pop into BluPort, and take 37, to avoid the congestion of HH downtown.  Actually comes in just below BluPort and need to come back over the RR overpass.  Even if the same amount of time, better than higher risk of an oops with so much traffic on PhetKasem rd.

Better to solve the problem by pass overs in Cha am en in Hua Hin, as the traffic is terrible every day, We nerver go there in the weekend or holidays. The only times we did that when there was Covid..

they have already started tearing up the  rd.. just north of the  37/4 split coming out of PranBuri ...    it's already a disaster Rd. with the  2-3 times overloaded pick up trucks weaving in and out of traffic doing well over 120.  Great idea to give them more room to weave and go faster
