Daily News Thai Caption: Wrong corpse

Daily News reported scenes of utter bewilderment at the temple of Wat Sawang Arom in Kabinburi, Prachinburi, central Thailand yesterday.

A large number of grieving relatives had gathered at the temple for bathing rites for a 58 year old woman called Somneuk who had died in an accident.

But when the coffin was opened the body was the wrong color - their relative was of dark complexion, this one was white.

Calls were made and it was discovered that the real relative was in preparation to be taken to Suphanburi more than 100 km away.

They had got a 33 year old female corpse by mistake.

A switch was then made at the temple.

The hospital apologised as they looked similar and a morgue official had made an error when releasing the body for cremation.

How very Thai. Two different points of view but Thai Buddism finds the middle way!

Don't they tag them before they bag them?

58yo dark ladies look like 33yo white women?

Maybe after 25 beers.

Similar has happened before when giving a mother their new-born. Just part of the wonder of Thailand. When you've got two people it's so hard to know which is which. If you're Thai and have the normal Thai organisation skills.

Think if I was a would be patient I would avoid that hospital like the plague just in case I got a vasectomy instead of my tonsils removed

Reading isn't a strong point.

Also suggesting that the check if the right body is going out is just skin colour. Wow.

Checking is also not a strong point.
