Heavy rain wreaks havoc in Pattaya, damages tourists’ vehicles

Pattaya residents and tourists had to endure floods that damaged their property and vehicles in many areas after heavy rain wreaked the city yesterday.

A downpour struck most parts of Pattaya at 2 PM and lasted for more than an hour on Monday, The Pattaya News’s reporters reported. The low areas, such as the road along the railway, Soi Khao Talo, Soi Wat Tham Samakhi, and Khao Talo Road, were flooded, with the water level ranging from 30 cm to 1 m.

A foreign tourist’s car stuck on the railway road was half submerged, forcing the male tourist to flee his vehicle through a car window. Pattaya city workers helped tow his car to a garage for repair after the rain stopped.

Can't see the point in a raincoat when your stood 3 ft deep in the water

  • The foreign tourist drove into flood waters and got stuck...... what was the outcome expected other than to flood the vehicle ?

  • You need something like an American Corvette then this is no problem. Look at this video

Ahh the family resort city of Pattaya, crown jewel of the TAT. When you look at a map that shows the number of water courses draining into the sea in that region, it is no wonder that major flooding occurs there.

The only way to resolve the major flooding in Pattaya would be to construct flood levees to essentially divert the excess water runoff around Pattaya. A very expensive civil earthworks project.

I thought the rain season would have finished in Pattaya. Is this later than normal?

A brightly coloured one (HiVis), might prevent one being hit by a truck... might!

All have had new drains recently fitted.

Unlike (no floods this year) Prawit, monsoonal patterns do not have designer watches.????????

I like that. A HiVis coat might stop you being hit by an HGV .

Have you never experienced a hard heavy monsoonal downpour ?

You are asking someone, who just wants to complain about everything for the sake of complaining, to actually apply logic and reason to their baseless argument.

Very expensive ??  The city council will be rubbing their hands if that ever gets off the ground

Wold be cheaper to bulldoze Pattaya and rebuild around the natural flood drainage paths.

Dont think the risk of getting hit by a truck to be too high in this instance.

You need to look at the OP pic and the post I quoted.

Thought we'd seen the back of the heavy storms but this one just now was pretty severe thunder and lightening wise.

Do insurance companies here insure vehicles for floods? Surely they wouldn't, as it floors all the time and lots of vehicles always gets flood damage. It would cost insurance companies a fortune.

Every year I renew my policy I try to read the cover, and lose interest half way down the page.... ! Most probably only have the compulsory insurance, which certainly doesn't.

Might be covered under home insurance.

1st class on all my vehicles has them covered for flood damage.

not sure how tat works cause Iam sure they will ask footage to see if I drove into the water on purpose.
