At least 25 protesters were taken into police custody this morning (Friday), following clashes with riot-control police on Din Sor Road, near the Democracy Monument, according to Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR).

Several police officers, protesters and a Reuters photographer sustained minor injuries as protesters from the “Stop APEC 2022” movement tried to breach a police cordon and march to the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, to submit a petition to the APEC leaders meeting there.

At about 1.45pm, police used two cargo containers to block the two-lane Din Sor Road, to prevent protesters from leaving the Lan Khon Mueang Town Square, which was designated as their rally venue by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).

So sad to see police forces around the World so we'll equipped to fight against the will of the people.

Police in every country are doing the job the public are not able to perform. Do you expect them to discharge their duties without any protection from angry citizens. Or, would you prefer the Army do this job?

The protesters should have booked a hotel conference room and invited the worlds press to come listen and report.. more than one way of protesting, rather than taking to the streets.

The Army's too busy being the government, whilst pretending not to be The Army (The tail that wags the dog!?).????

Police in Thailand fired rubber bullets at crowds protesting against the Apec economic summit in Bangkok, a police official in charge of the event's security task force said.

Violence erupted between police and hundreds of protesters near the summit's venue - attended by leaders from around the world.

Videos shared on social media showed demonstrators throwing projectiles, charging at police and trying to overturn a police car; while police advanced on them with shields and beat them back with batons.

A youth activist who was at the demonstration told Reuters news agency that people were also protesting against Thailand's Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha.

Mr Prayuth first seized power in the 2014 military coup and then retained office in 2019 under a heavily restricted election. He has survived multiple no-confidence votes against him this year.

Is it really the "will of the people", or just a few protesters making a lot of noise?

There were similar scenes in the UK back in the 70's with extreme left wing minority groups causing violence at protests trying to undermine the elected government of the UK. The police need to be equipped with reasonable defensive and offensive measures to protect themselves and property and arrest perpetrators. It is extremely scary to be confronted by a violent intimidating mob who damage private property of people who have no connection to the issue (overturn parked cars etc.) and sometimes police officers can 'lose it' their fear converts to the natural aggressive response, and they go after the ones perceive as threatening. There may have been a few incidents where police officers lost it but I think the police were restrained and disciplined in general.
