Food drama! Viral TikTok video features "special" prawn fried rice for 340 baht

Sanook reported that Thais were commenting in droves as a post about expensive food went viral.

 

Healthyjuice0 posted on TikTok that he had bought a prawn fried rice - a special one - for 340 baht.

With a woman's help they counted 9 prawns.

 

The woman was heard sarcastically saying "ooh there's another".

 

Netizens made many comments.

Many said it'd be better to buy 40 baht's worth of rice and pay 300 baht for a kilo of prawns.

 

Others said that for prawns of the size seen in video it would cost 220 baht a kilo. 

 

It wasn't revealed from where the meal had been ordered or why it was so expensive.

 

Prawn fried rice is normally about 60 baht on the street perhaps with four prawns. Add a few more and maybe it should be 80 baht, suggests ASEAN NOW.

I would say somewhere in Phuket - although 10 Years ago, so prices might have risen since then. Thank goodness they didn't order an accompanying fish...

 

Highly credible tiktok news aswell - I tried to give it a go once, looking for rip offs exposing squids and starfishes,. but in the end found mostly males flexing mussels, so deleted.
