Hi

We're just back in Thailand and the car needs an MOT ( been with wife's brother ).

Staying in Areca Lodge Soi Dianna, Pattaya. It's a standard Honda with no mods.

Any local recommendations ?

Been with the wife's brother? Probably need a new one!

The so called MOT is no issue here.... in fact the wife's brother should have kept it up to date each year with test, insurance and tax. My Mrs takes mine to the place on Hwy 36 each year and gets it done, motorcycle too....never takes her long. Many insurance agents will do it for you, and there was a place in Central Festival, 5th floor would do it. Another in Big-C, the one near Tai.

Plan on going to LTD to renew road tax ?

If yes there is a test centre there.

That's exactly what we're planning.

We usually get it done in Bangkok, but I'm getting some sun so the Missus is finding useful things to keep her occupied.

Where is the LTD in Pattaya ?

Why all the fuss about driving to the DLT (hw 36)?

Take car to next inspection workshop (yellow cogwheel). Hand them the car registration book and let them take care for inspection, mandatory insurance and tax.

Drive away after inspection on the spot. Pick up documents/sticker next day.

At least one inspection shop at a Soi off south Pattaya rd. Would have to check for exact location.

If overdue more than three years there is lot more to do.

Correct as the Ministry of Transport is not responsible for road transport.

The responsible organization calls itself in English:

Department of Land Transport (DLT).

Its a department of the Ministry of Transport (MOT) which oversees all transport except aviation.

normally renew 1 month early - does that make it 6 years old still?

No. Age is determined by the date that the car has been registered as seen in the blue reg. book.

If your car has been registered in 2015 (2558) it's due for inspection.
