Buying pepper spray in Thailand

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Anybody know how or where to buy peeper spray (or an effective equivalent) in Thailand?

It’s the only effective way of dealing with an attack by dogs, and they can be a real danger.

( I know there are some ‘laws’ about it, but I’d rather defend myself first and handle the ‘laws’ after. We all know how flexible those ‘laws’ are)

No control on the spray dispersion on a windy day and you might end up paying compensation to some innocent bystander. Go for the cattle prod.     https://www.lazada.co.th/products/prodlives

When the pooch takes me for my walks, I carry a cane. It looks totally appropriate for someone my age. It has been useful a couple of times, but is probably not 100% effective in keeping dogs at bay.

A golf club works also.  Pitching wedge is larger.

I had a bear spray blow back in my face in my alley, I was testing it out as it was old. The eyes weren’t the worse thing, it was trying to breathe.

Dogs hate vinegar spray, so vinegar or acetic acid in a spray pack would deter them. Toss a few chillies in if you want to add some heat to the brew.

While out riding the bicycle I’ve had as many as six dogs come at me. I immediately stop, and that confuses them, I then shout at them always keeping the bike between us. The Alpha dog is the one to watch, and the others follow him. I mime picking up stones and throwing them, sometimes they just leave…..if they don’t then the stones come into action all aimed at the Alpha dog….he runs, they all run. Getting bitten is a drag because now it’s the hospital and a shot in case of rabies, and then return weeks later for another shot. I got that bite in a temple when I touched a temple dog…..Oops!

Yes wind direction is quite important when using bear spray!!!!

Build your own if you have a basic electrical knowledge, DIY. By a thick PVC pipe. It won't kill but it gives a good lessen to keep away.

Friend of mine in the UK swears by WD40 as dog repellent

Apparently liberal amount to face and preferably down throat most efficacious (if not fatal)

Plus nothing contentious in having an oil spray

I last bought some at Chaengwattans government centre. They had it in a shop near Police Immigration. Before that,  in the old location of Immigration, I used to buy it in the old police uniforms shop across the road. But I've noticed in Bangkok that it is much harder to buy than 10 years ago.

There are lots of dog deterrent torchlight things on the market.

Some are ultra-sound types others emit a flashing led light and a sound very similar to a stun-gun/taser.

He uses it when he rides his bike and swears that every time he has had to use it even the most vicious and crazed dog had fled instantly.

you could buy it in sukumvit road of a stall

the really loud explosive bangers used to get em to leave fast and head for the other side of town,i could clear the area of dogs

So you go forth, walk amongst the Soi dogs, get bit as you try to be docile and talk softly to them.  As a retired canine trainer, walk softly but carry a big stick...... get back to us on how you fare walking through a group if sou dogs who run up on you.

Buy from Lazada a stun gun zapper thing. You don't need to near the dogs, just press the button and the dogs run away from the sound and no one gets hurt

Had one for years, only works on some dogs, some it makes more aggressive, others no affect at all. Metal expanding rod is the best, they don't like it up 'em.
