Jeremy Clarkson says he is 'horrified' over Meghan column

Featured Replies

Broadcaster Jeremy Clarkson has said he is "horrified" after "causing so much hurt" in a column he wrote in the Sun about the Duchess of Sussex.

More than 6,000 complaints have been made to the press regulator after Clarkson wrote in Friday's newspaper that he "hated [Meghan] on a cellular level".

In a tweet on Monday, he said: "Oh dear. I've rather put my foot in it."

Nice to have people who don't always conform to the rules of what is socially acceptable and says what they think without being concerned about up setting people and losing his job and having to apologise

The former Top Gear presenter has since issued an apology for his comments, which has sparked further outrage from his followers.

He penned on Twitter: "Oh dear. I’ve rather put my foot in it.

That isn't really an apology though is it , that's just an acknowledgment of the reaction his post caused

"But Alex Phillips, a journalist and former Brexit Party MEP, defended Clarkson, telling ITV's Good Morning Britain she believed he is "deliberately pushing boundaries to be offensive". She said he's "not there to be taken seriously" and "his word is there to be found funny, and it always has been". Phillips added: "Taking something that happened in Game of Thrones, one of the most widely-watched TV series... Does he mean it? Of course he doesn't mean it."

It's a shame more people didn't see it as humor because that's what it was. Perhaps we could have some reruns of Steptoe and Son or Alf Garnet and see how that goes down these days, they were brilliantly funny.

Clarkson, Morgan....washed up hacks who can only get recognition from demeaning remarks...neither are funny anymore.

Clarkson has a different way of talking.  He doesn't mean things literally, and says things more to express an idea or sentiment in an over exaggerated way.

Also, no one should care what he says, he's just voicing his thoughts, and others should ignore.

He often says this himself.

But actually, he is right. Megs is the ultimate spoiled diva, who sees the world through a prism of "me me me".  She was eager to make the journey from b-list actress to a-list royal. And when that didn't happen, she spit the dummy and began to cry.

I thought his comments were pretty funny. Obviously said in jest for a bit of a laugh. Certainly made me chuckle.

It's no surprise that the pearl clutchers have come out in force to wring their hands at the horror of it all. ????

To start with; I am non-British and come from a country with a completely different government structure.

Yet, maybe it is time to realize, that all those tree huggers and do-gooders out there are not on the wrong path but on the wrong highway. And the latest PR stint of "les infants terribles" proves it, once more, again.

Outspoken Ms Markle can counter Mr Clarkson's comments and - trust me - he can take it, no worries there. This gold-digging lady knew EXACTLY, what to expect if she wants to be showered with jewels and gold. Well, Sweetheart, you cannot have your cake and eat it and hence it is either IN or OUT. You've opted out, which is better late than never, but making publicly fun of the royal protocol is nothing but despicable in its finest order. In addition, she managed to pour extra oil into a fire between her lovely husband, Mr Harry Windsor and his brother, the future King of England.

It might take a little extra vocabulary to get the message really across and Clarkson has managed, once more again, beautifully well. Keep up the good work; in this particular case = no damage done whatsoever.

And, to Ms Markle, keep your shirt on, stay where you are and stop putting your nose into things you were never willing to learn, understand or adhere to. It is a British matter which you, for one, certainly never will comprehend ????

One of the best things about the British monarchy in recent times, was that you never really had to hear much about them. Unless they were breeding, marrying or dying you could quite happily manage to get through your day without hearing a word about them.

It seems like a very different story recently ????.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are an admirable couple.  They have exposed the racist underbelly of the nation and the misogyny that is so abundant and evident even on this forum.

I suspect the rifts in the Royal Family will heal with time, and they are likely to begin to understand the many ways they have contributed to an endemic problem of racism.  Hopefully, they will lead from the top.

You're right. He isn't really sorry at all, nor should he be.

When you have the audactity to mock the traditions of another country that you clearly don't understand, your ignorance and bigotry deserves to be ridiculed - so no sympathy for Markle on this one.

Nice one Jezza. ????

Please don't.  I simply have an understanding of racism, and I am not a woman-hater.  I suspect you don't.

Debatable.

I would say urinating on the traditions and beliefs of another country from a position of profound ignorance might be considered as dishonourable.  Acting the diva when those around you try to help you is dishonourable. Attacking people who cannot fight back is dishonourable.  Demanding privacy and then taking part in a 6 hour Netflix show is dishonourable.

The problem is UK needs more television game shows to keep these guys employed and off the streets.

Let's not forget the repeated allegations that she abused her staff. Such behaviour from a Royal toward lowly servants is certainly dishonourable.

"The anonymous staffer is quoted as saying, “Every ten minutes, I had to go outside to be screamed at by her and Harry. It was, ‘I can’t believe you’ve done this. You’ve let me down. What were you thinking?’ It went on for a couple of hours.”

The staffer alleged the calls continued “for days,” adding, “You could not escape them. There were no lines or boundaries—it was last thing at night, first thing in the morning.”

Another source tells Low, “There were a lot of broken people. Young women were broken by their behavior.”

Not exactly what I would call honourable behavior.

"It's no coincidence that distorted several-year-old accusations aimed at undermining the duchess are being briefed to the British media shortly before she and the duke are due to speak openly and honestly about their experience of recent years.”

Can we please stop giving this wretched, dysfunctional family oxygen? A king that wanted to be a tampon, a pedophile prince. I rest my case.

Jeremy Clarkson gets up himself on a regular schedule, apart from that I have no opinion one way or the other on what he said.

Yet another good example of what H&M had, and have to put up with.  No wonder they left that backbiting palace cesspool.

He says what he thinks, its his opinion, more people should it?

Many don't, they are either to PC or scared?
