"Students of Thai language" hiding under a table when immigration come calling - it's a loan shark business

Region 1 Immigration in Bangkok went to check on a house after a member of the public told them about apparent "Chinese" people acting strangely.

 

They would only leave the property for meals.

 

Pol Lt-Col Suriya Phungsombat came knocking and the door was answered by a Mr Woo (assumed name) from Malaysia. 

 

He said he lived alone and was enrolled to study Thai at a well known institution.

 

The officers wondered about all the shoes there and the phone kept going off in a locked room.

 

Eventually Mr Woo agreed to open the room that was full of computer equipment, phones and headphones.

Four other Malaysians were cowering under a desk.

 

They also claimed they were Thai language students, reported Siam Rath.

 

The reality was they were all running an online loan sharking operation.

 

All the Malaysians have Chinese descent and were arrested.

 

Busts of foreigners claiming they are in Thailand to study Thai, but are really engaged in criminal activity, are becoming an almost daily occurrence, notes ASEAN NOW.

When I was a kid at school, we were taught this procedure in case of fallout from a nuclear attack.

Maybe they still do this in Malaysia.

Or this raid was their equivalent of a nuclear attack.

I appreciate the article's need to mention "Chinese descent." A Malaysian named "Woo" was a head scratcher.

So you'd like immigration to be doing more checks on us then? Don't 99% of the people on this forum moan about immigration asking too many questions, occasionally coming to visit their houses etc. But you clearly want more of this, I'll remember that.

Or did you just want a random moan because you like complaining and looking for negatives in every single story?
