Bangkok Unites to Tackle Begging and Homelessness on Main Street
File photo for reference only Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has announced a collaborative effort with the Royal Thai Police to address the chronic issue of begging and homelessness along Sukhumvit Road. This new initiative, following discussions with Police General Kitrat Phanphet, aims to implement a pilot project spanning from Phoenchit to Phra Khanong. The project marks a significant step, with the hope of producing tangible results this year. Sukhumvit Road will serve as a focal point, potentially becoming a model for other areas. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is also actively involved in this endeavour. Understanding the complexity of the situation, Governor Chadchart outlined the necessity for sustained, long-term solutions. Such measures include enhancing social welfare services, creating affordable housing opportunities, and assisting with job placement for homeless individuals. A BMA survey recently found that Bangkok is home to approximately 400 homeless people, highlighting the need for urgent attention. The initiative follows a recent crackdown on local beggars, resulting in twelve arrests, comprising both Thai and foreign nationals. Shockingly, one local beggar was discovered to possess a million baht bank account and substantial cash holdings. Foreign beggars faced charges for illegal residency and begging. This joint task force represents a focused attempt to address these social challenges, signalling a committed response from Bangkok's leadership. Time will tell if these efforts can effectively curb the issues on Sukhumvit Road. -- 2024-12-18 -

Ireland’s Move at the ICJ Redefining The Meaning of Genocide to get a Conviction
Triggered by the closure so comes up with lies ‘Antisemitic liar’: FM blasts Irish president’s claim Israel wants to settle Egypt Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar called Ireland’s President Michael Higgins an “antisemitic liar” on Tuesday, not long after Israel announced the shuttering of its embassy in Dublin, citing “anti-Israel” policy. Sa’ar’s comments came after Higgins accused Israel of breaching Lebanon’s and Syria’s sovereignty and charged, without evidence, that Jerusalem was seeking to establish settlements in Egypt. https://www.timesofisrael.com/antisemitic-liar-fm-blasts-irish-presidents-claim-israel-wants-to-settle-egypt/ This is the biggest straw man argument and everyone should shoot it down immediately for being deeply dishonest. The government of Ireland is not just criticizing the policies of the Netanyahu government – and it’s a really cheap trick to pretend that this is what’s happening. -

South Africa Declines to Invite Putin to 2025 G20 Summit Amid ICC Warrant
South Africa are not taking the moral high ground. They are simply signaling their intention to abide by their obligations under Article 59 of the Rome Statute. They’ve diplomatically not invited Putin thereby avoiding a diplomatic incident. It’s a sad indictment of your own outlook that you regard a nation signaling its intent to abide by the International Statutes to which it is a signatory as ‘trying to take the moral high ground’. -
