Is this normal?

 

The new batch I ordered (wearing mask still compulsary in some places) has a strong chemically smell when I put them on. Anyone know what this could be? And whether they are doing me more harm than good?

Was a batch of 50 and the only ones of that variety I could find in black.

 

I'm not particularly worried, just interested to know whether they actually need to be binned anyway.
