Siam Rath reported on an extraordinary story of how whistleblower and former MP Chuwit Kamolwisit helped save a man from jumping off the tollway in northern Bangkok.

The Thung Song Hong police had been alerted and went with rescue services yesterday to the tollway bridge outside IT Square.

A man, aged 60, dressed only in jeans with lots of amulets round his neck was threatening to jump to his death.

He called for the press.

He then announced that Chuwit was the man when it came to getting things done.

He was unhappy with the investigation into the Grey Chinese that Chuwit has been feeding with information.

He said as he teetered on the concrete beam:

"If I get the chance I want to thank Chuwit on behalf of the Thai people".

After dragging on his last cigarette it looked as if Pornchai was about to jump.

Reporters tried a new tack. Chuwit was contacted and put on speaker phone and it was agreed that if Pornchai gave up his jump then he could visit Chuwit in The Davis hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 24.

After this was agreed the press took Pornchai to The Davis where the potential suicide victim now prostrated himself at Chuwit's feet.

He showered him with praise about his bravery in standing up to corruption and people of influence.

Chuwit gave the man a big hug.

He made no bones about the stupid thing he had done wasting everyone's time threatening to jump.

He reminded him there were other ways to fight the good fight.

Let him see to it.

It was agreed that Chuwit would help sort out donations related to several coffins that Pornchai had made.

The two parted company as Pornchai left in the company of the Thung Song Hong police.

They wanted to know what should be done about the three wasted hours of police time.

Yes this is a perfectly normal action for somebody who genuinely wants to end their life...

No they didn't. There is nothing like this in the original article on Thai Rath. It is a cheap dig by AN to get the negative posters posting. And the very first poster to reply has taken the bait! Perfect.

The original article ends with the police taking the guy home which is the penultimate sentence here.

What? Are they talking about 3 hours???? Oh Lord, get a grip guys! You are already wasting 24h per day.

Don't take the bait. You should be able to see this was written to get replies such as yours.

But no, I am sure you will do the same on the next one.

I hope the guy gets some help, suicide is no joke.

Indeed. And the police spent hours helping him, Chuwit helped him, then the police took him home. Well done to all.

And AN add a snarky comment at the end (which was not in the original report) that the police want to know what should be done about the three hours of wasted police time. It is utterly disrespectful to the police who saved a life that night, I find it really pathetic to even add that sentence, they should be ashamed.

For all the faults of the RTP (and there are many) in many situations they do act with a lot of compassion that the west could learn from.

Only the police would view three hours of saving a mans life as wasted time.

Good analytic abilities. You should be a medium. On the other hand, I made your day, as you got to be totally irrelevant to the thread.

No it's not. And using the subject for some kind of political stunt would be a horrific.
