Sanook Thai Caption: Mother and child dead

Sanook reported on a tragedy on the train tracks in Samut Sakhon in central Thailand.

A Chinese lady they called "Lin", 39, was driving a pick-up with her one year old daughter.

Witnesses reported seeing the pick-up get stuck on the rails at a crossing in Mahachai district.

The Mahachai to Wong Wian Yai train was about to arrive.

The lady got out cradling her daughter but made the mistake of not fleeing to the side.

She ran down the tracks with her daughter.

The train smashed into the pick-up then the mother and child.

Both died in hospital.

The provincial governor and his deputy were later on the scene promising improvements to the positioning of warnings at crossings.

The one involved in this story had warning lights and sounds but no barrier.

RIP.  But really....running away on the tracks from a train instead of simply stepping aside?  Stupidity causing your own death.  Sad but stupid.

She panicked! Of course when reading it in the comfort of your own room, or on a bar stool or whatever, it seems like an extremely stupid decision. But people don't work well under pressure, and when something is coming towards you the natural reaction is to run away from it.

I'm sure if there had been more time before the impact she would have figured out fairly quickly that she needed to run to the side. These decisions take place in a matter of seconds.

Poor lady.

Someone has to die before anything gets done ,

'The one involved in this story had warning lights and sounds but no barrier. " should be enough for

normal sensible people (if they were working ) , see flashing lights ,hear warning horns , you stop

seems to be a few lately that thought they could beat the train...

from the video I saw, there were barriers on the correct side of the road, the lady choose to cross to the wrong side to cross the already down barrier

I am extremely sad for the little baby, to not be able to live their life, due to the utter stupidity of their mother.  No excuse for running down the tracks, instead of to the side.  Two lives snuffed out without any real necessity.
