90-day Reporting And Certificate Of Residency

Featured Replies

I had a search through the answers here but could not find the info I was looking for.

I'm after the Certificate of Residency which I understand is available free from Suan Phlu. This certificate is used by many to register vehicles and obtain a Thai driving licence.

I've held a work permit for many years. I've have never done the 90-day reporting. When I first obtained the work permit, the rule was not enforced.

My question is if I go to Suan Phlu to apply for the Certificate of Residency, will I end up getting fined for not doing the 90-day reporting?

Thank you in advance for your expertise.

90 day address reporting has nothing to do with work permits. But if you also have 12 month extensions of stay and remain in Thailand longer than 90 days at a time such reports are required.

As for cross check being made - reports from upcountry have indicated they were and people fined for non reporting when asking for free service after not making required reports - they checked that a report was on file prior to issue of certification. Bangkok previously had little interoffice contact between the sections but I suspect that may have changed now that the information is entered into a computer database.

The fine for late reporting of address is still 2,000 baht if you are not arrested and it found out later so would not cost that much to get legal - probably not much more expensive than getting the paper from your Embassy.

Direct answer is I don't know if you will be found out or not in Bangkok.

As an aside on the same topic, i have been here nearly a year on a retirment visa but have never done a 90 day report because i have been in and out of the country on several trips and not been here longer than 90 contiguous days.

i also need to get a certificate for address, will the lack of 90 day reports hinder me?

No. Only required for stay over 90 days in any one continuos period. You are ok.

Last time I entered the country was 70 days ago. Maybe I can swing like that?

Wonder if I can get legal without getting fined :o .
