German Defence Minister resigns after series of blunders and PR disasters !

Germany's Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht has resigned following a series of blunders and PR disasters.

It comes as Berlin comes under rising pressure to allow the delivery of German-built battle tanks to Ukraine.

Ms Lambrecht was mocked for her announcement that Germany was supporting Ukraine by sending 5,000 military helmets.

She was also widely criticised for failing to improve Germany's notoriously ill-equipped armed forces.

This was despite the provision of €100bn (£88bn) for that task following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Useless foot dragger. Austin is obviously going there to light a fire under the Germans.

One should not rule out anything but there is no decision yet, Defense Minister Lambrecht says

Chancellor Olaf Scholz has so far refused to supply Leopard 2 combat tanks on the grounds that no other NATO country has made such tanks available.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has invited members of the so-called Ukraine Contact Group to a meeting at the US Ramstein Air Force Base in southwestern Germany on Jan. 20.

why don't they clear out all the ex-soviet tanks in eastern europe and send them all to ukraine? Then the modern stuff can be sent to nato / euro countries to improve things there. Bulgaria, Cyprus, Hungary, Latvia, Poland (obviously), Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, etc

The Ukrainians know how to use these efficiently. It would be quick to deliver the stocks.

The Germans and the British can then make a lot of money re-supplying their "Allies".

They are sending whatever spare they are having. But it's not much left for themselves - in fact, will they ever need it? Some claim that the purpose of the fighting is to clear off the weaponry, some say it's for wearing off all parties (in Europe).

As in German media reported the former military adviser to Angela Merkel brig. gen. Erich Vad is against the weapon supply as it is not much of quality and as it does not bring Ukraine much closer to a peace, population is suffering.

Over half million of German citizens have signed a letter to Chancellor Scholz asking not to carry on with the military supplies. Similar letters are also in other EU countries.

Haven't something similar been recently expressed also by Chief Of Joint Staff Mark Milley? It hasn't been much publicised, has it?

At least the series of "female power" (three female def.min. in series) is broken.

One worse than the previous one.

A now state interior minister (Boris Pistorius) will follow.

As hesitant Olaf has lifted gender quota to a religious believe he would now have to do another re-shuffle.

Because the Ukrainians soldiers who manned them would probably become mince meat. Have you seen what the Ukrainians did to the old Soviet tanks? Thousands of them destroyed along with their crews. They need modern tanks.

Germany could provide a lot more military support for Ukraine. Compared to other EU countries, they have provided miniscule military and financial support to Ukraine, based on GDP size. (see https://www.statista.com/statistics/1303450/bilateral-aid-to-ukraine-in-a-percent-of-donor-gdp/)

Germany just keeps on supporting the Russian agenda, and obstructs the EU and other countries from helping Ukraine, especially when it comes to Leopard tanks. Germany doesn't want Ukraine to win and is trying to delay Western proper military support as much as possible.

Germany and France are just making token gestures to Ukraine and sending bandages instead of bullets.
