ASUS no spares available ???

My 3 year old  ASUS laptop has a faulty charging socket  which needs replacing  but no one has  available spares even ASUS authorised repair centre any ideas  ???

Sorry to disappoint you, anything computer 3 year old is old. ASUS developed probably thousand new products in the last 3 years.

Obviously it would be nice if you can get a replacement, but I wouldn't bet on it.

And the questions is obviously: What has to be replaced? A friend has a FUJITSU notebook and the audio out port didn't work anymore. They had to replace the motherboard (the biggest part in the notebook) because the port was soldered to the motherboard. Maybe that is also the case with your notebook, maybe not. 

 

If ASUS tells you they don't have it maybe try an independent repair center or guy, someone who solders every single part. Such a person might be able to repair it.

Even Apple products have a similar problem.  I have a 2017 IPad Pro and it took several days to find a shop that had a replacement battery.  I went to a ICare location and they “no have battery for old model”.  I guess now a device is considered old in two or three years.

The trick is to find a local shop that does board level repairs. The charging port is most likely an easy fix for this person but getting a replacement port from "where" is the neat trick

Also, there are a few PC dismantlers around who desolder and then resolder components on to motherboards. Both Panthip plazas (Phetchaburi Rd and Ngam Wong Wan) have shops where you can by second hand laptop components. They both had tradespeople with skills to replace componentry on (capacitors / resistors etc) on motherboards.

I've used the guy at Panthip Ngamwongwan several times for fault finding and component replacement on a variety of PCB and motherboards. He is in the back left corner on the 4th or 5th level.

That probably doesn't help you in Pattaya(based on your location under your name), but there will be without doubt people who can desolder and resolder a warn out DC connector if you source one from Aliexpress.

Here is an example from Shoppee. Not sure if it is the exact model. There are also plenty of aftermarket battery shops locally in Thailand that will have just the battery you need.

Did you try to login to support page (with your Apple ID) on apple.com and schedule appointment at Apple Store Central World or Icon Siam?

I live in Chiang Mai and found a local shop that replaced the battery for 3000 Baht.  So fa so good.

find out the name and number of the part you need and buy it online. Over a year ago I replaced the charging socket for a (long disconrtiued) Sony Vaio laptop. I found the part on lazada

Apple are notorious for this. Slightest problem and their answer is buy a new computer.

Yes. I was advised I can always “buy new”.  This also happened many years ago at an Apple Store in Cerritos CA when I brought in my 1 year old Mac Air that was overheating.  The employee said “the repair might take a long time but you might be better off with a new Mac Air”.  Even then I thought wow this company wants everyone to buy a new device every year.  

 

I now have a Samsung Laptop and when my IPad dies I will be replacing it with a Samsung tablet.
