Daily News Thai Caption: Hunted down

Daily News reported on action taken against illegal foreign migrant workers after information received by the Highway Police in Ayutthaya, central Thailand.

At 5 pm yesterday on Pahonyothin Road heading towards Bangkok in the Wang Noi area of Ayutthaya police noticed 4/5 pick-ups travelling in convoy.

An order to stop was made but instead the convoy sped up and tried to escape.

A ten kilometer chase ensued before a Toyota pick-up driven by Tanchai Sae-wang, 42, from Tak, was forced to stop.

Crammed inside were ten migrants from Myanmar, 8 men 2 women, none of whom had passports.

Tanchai said that he was paid 20,000 baht a time to pick up migrants from Sukhothai and deliver them to Bangkok and surrounding areas.

The migrants said they had sneaked across a natural border in Mae Sot and had paid agents 18,000 to 25,000 baht for the privilege of working in Thailand.

They are all now in the custody of the Wang Noi police.

Having mentioned 4/5 pick-ups Daily News did not report what happened to the other vehicles, notes ASEAN NOW.
