webfact Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath pointed out that many Thai people believe that consuming alcohol will stave off the cold. Doctors disagree and say it is just bad for your health and causes trouble when it comes to DUI. In fact booze can make matters worse in the cold and cause seizures. Their comments came at the end of a report about a man called Chaiyo, 43, who was found dead at the foot of the steps leading to a raised platform in his field in Tha Sala sub-district of Khon Kaen, NE Thailand. It was estimated he'd been dead for 4-6 hours. There were no signs of a struggle. Near the body was a 20 baht note and some coins as well as an empty bottle of 40 degree spirit and two empty tonic drink bottles. The owner of the adjacent cassava field said that he had been alerted to what happened by his neighbor's dog that followed him everywhere. He was barking continually as if to alert him to something. He found Chaiyo face down and he was already dead. He called the phu yai ban and the victim's wife. The wife told the police who arrived at the scene that her husband had a great temperament. He loved a drink but never caused anyone any trouble. She thought he had gone to buy some alcohol in the morning as it was cold. She reckoned he fell down the stairs and knocked himself out and the cold killed him. Popular Post spidermike007 Posted January 23, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 23, 2023 Such incredible wisdom. Alcohol is bad for you. Alcohol does not help with the cold weather. Such genius concepts. Where do they find such experts, who are able to provide such sage advice? 5 1

First we have the common knowledge and education of the general Thai person? Second, the doctors that disagree are the ones who are supposed to help and treat us? and so on............ 1 1
MRToMRT Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 How do these Einsteins account for the whole of the further northern and southern hemispheres not dying out on en masse every winter? 1

swm59nj Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 Could have passed away from anything. Not because of the alcohol. He might have just had an underlying health condition. 1 1

The average Finn would die from heatstroke in 11 degrees...... 1
hotchilli Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 Maybe it was the quantity of alcohol that ended his life... rather than just a dram to keep the frost off.
Aussieroaming Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 A good quality slug of rum would have warmed the poor man up. My father passed out at night in the snow in Scotland after a big night of partying with copious amounts of scotch and they didn't find him for hours. His survival was attributed to the amount that he had imbibed. Maybe it was a tall tale!
