Fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra insists his return to Thailand will come without help from Pheu Thai or the ruling Palang Pracharath Party and will be announced by his daughter Paetongtarn.

 

Thaksin made the latest declaration on returning to his homeland during a discussion on the Clubhouse social media app on Tuesday (Jan 24) night.

 

It came amid rumours that Palang Pracharat and Pheu Thai have done a deal for Thaksin to return after the general election, scheduled for May.

 

The former PM was answering questions from supporters in a live session held by the CARE Kid Kluan Thai (Think and Move Thailand) Facebook page.

 

Asked when he would return to Thailand, Thaksin revealed that he suffered an illness last year that disrupted his plans to come back.

Why doesn't he come back tomorrow?

He has Thai citizenship, he doesn't need a visa to come to Thailand.

And it's even better for him, he will have free accommodation and food for a few years, paid by the taxpayers.

Will she weep, sob and cry on camera for his return, as did her sister ex-PM Yingluck who nearly ruined Thailand's place in the worldwide rice industry by her ridiculously incompetent "rice pledging scheme" when it miserably failed |??? I was in Thailand in 2014 when Yingluck vomited this stupid idea, the rice farmers bought her line of <deleted>, then realized the only people who benefited were the middle-men and rice-storage operators; Shinawatra cronies. The rice price she demanded was laughed at by the worldwide market and Thailand's rice rotted in the silos while other rice-producing nations picked up the slack.. Eventually, the farmers in the peasant north were literally on their way to Bangkok in pickup trucks with pitchforks in hand ready to skewer her when the coup e' etat occurred (one dozens that have occurred in LOS since the 1930's). This was in 2014, and that's how and why the military took control. No trusting the Shinawatras...then there is Thaksin's wife who benefited from bargain basement price on a prime piece of land in central Bangkok. I am no fan of the current cast of clowns in charge, but the Shinawatras are no better.

I agree with Jimbo. While Thaskin is no saint, he was much better for the foreigners while he was in office. Sure he was corrupt, but they all are. At least he welcomed foreigners and their businesses. He was a businessman and tried to help both the Thais and Foreigners, well, and himself. I’d love to do an exchange with Prayut and send him packing. He has completely screwed Thailand since he took control. He can take Auntin with him as well. Someone needs to get rid of that Foreign hating numb nut.

To point to just one of his qualities: He is not racist like many of the present incumbents and as such would benefit farang in the long term.

I agree that Thaksin is no saint but he is the best of a bad lot and having lived here for 26 years, things were much better for Farang back then. So I personally welcome the news.

While I agree Thaksin was much better than having Generals trying to run a country with a dictational mindset, (lets not forget the attitude camps) trumping up charges to get rid of popular opposition. And now FFP in the running changes things, unfortunately Thaksin's statement that weed was as bad as opium has put me off him. 

One thing that the Thai people agree on on there was a lot more freedom when he was in charge ok they are all corrupt but people generally don't like what's happened to their country with these generals in charge hopefully they will be voted out but time will tell

A statute of limitations must be coming to an end.

Prawit is a friend of Thaksin and there have been discussions if he can bring the army on board then he will get a shot at PM (Prawit that is !). That's the reason for Prayuth leaving to join another vanity party.There will be a PP,Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai coalition after the election and the final piece of the jigsaw is a pardon which rumours suggest might be forthcoming.

 

Thaksin will be met by huge crowds at the airport like a conquering hero returned. Khun Prayuth probably needs to watch his back !
