webfact Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Picture: 77kaoded77kaoded reported on a botched gold shop robbery in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai, northern Thailand. It happened at the G 99 shop close to the border crossing. Mae Sai police had an easy arrest to make as the would-be robber was still in the shop. Staff said that they had seen a chubby man milling around outside at 10.30 am wearing a full face helmet. They opened the door remotely and asked him to remove the helmet which he did. He then asked to look at three one baht weight gold necklaces (about 30,000 baht each) and tried one on for size. He then tried to run out of the shop but found his way blocked as staff had used the remote control to lock it. They called the police. Picture: 77kaoded When the cops arrived the suspect was walking about the shop helpless. He was told to hand back the jewelry then he was arrested on a charge of snatch theft. It later emerged he was Kan, 38, from Chiang Mai. He told reporters he had arrived in Mae Sai that morning from Fang. Picture: 77kaoded Asked why he had tried to rob the store he said nonchalantly that he wanted to go to jail as he had no money. It also emerged that in 2007 he had served two years in jail for theft. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2023-02-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Henryford Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Why don't all gold shops do this. There is one on Soi Buakhao in Pattaya with electric doors.

BritScot Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 How sad is this. So desperate that going to a thai prison is preferable to his life. People on here just don't realise how desperate poor Thai people can get. No state safety net: no money no food even drinking water. It is very sad. And every expat walks about with a 400k ~ 800k baht target on their backs.... 1

Well at least he did not use the excuse that he wanted to get away from his wife, like the guy did last week.
