sqwakvfr
Real world example is this. I have a neighbor who is in his mid 60’s. He thought about applying for a 1 year Self Defense (Maury Thai) Visa. He spoke to an agent and was advised a Non Imm O Based Upon Retirement was a better option. The neighbor later told me if he had applied for an Education Visa to study Thai Language then it probably would have been approved. I could see an Immigration Officer becoming suspicious if an old foreigner(not in the best physical condition) were to apply for a Self Defense Ed Visa. Of course this is just the example I know of. Others might know of different examples. 1
BritTim
There is no explicit age limit for a Non Ed visa. For courses in informal schools, such as Thai language, age is absolutely no issue. For formal education courses, such as at university, there are often limits, but they are not imposed by Immigration. 1
Roy Batty
I attended Bangkok University when I was 31. I never heard anything about age restrictions. Immigration didn't care, and neither did the university.

problemfarang
if you are looking for a reason to stay in thailand.. from the way of your question.. seems the non-o retirement is best option and seems cheaper than ED visa. your agency can do all
Maestro
It is not necessary to use an agency to apply for a non-ED visa.
