Chaeng Wattana Road inbound was closed for the best part of half an hour last night after a fire in electrical and communications cables.

It happened in a long stretch of road in front of Soi 6 heading towards the Bang Khen roundabout in Laksi.

Thung Song Hong police and Bang Khen fire services responded and the blaze was brought under control after 20 minutes.

It happened at 12.40 this morning in an area of skytrain construction; one concrete crosspiece leading to Soi 3 was slightly fire damaged, reported Thai Rath.

Heat buildup among the cables packed together was blamed for the fire that began near a high power transformer.

Officials are investigating.
