John Fetterman - Wikipedia

US Democratic Senator John Fetterman has checked himself into a hospital near Washington DC to receive treatment for severe depression, his office said.

The Pennsylvania lawmaker has faced depression "off and on throughout his life" a statement said.

He was elected in November and suffered a debilitating stroke last year while campaigning for the seat.

It was clear to me he was having major problems and would not be able to do the job, ah the dangers of free and critical thinking. This is another in a long line of false narratives beneficial to the democrat party that magically changes after an election. Coincidental no doubt.

Yep, saw a news-blip or 3, where he was having a hard time, express his thoughts, and even putting them in sentence.   Seems to be a requirement to be a candidate for Dems.

Apparently Dr. Sunny, you cannot reconcile the fact that he may well be recovering normally from the physical stroke and in addition to that physical recovery be suffering from a mental illness as well. its really not complicated.

The thing is, we were not told any of this during the election. The media message was "move on, nothing to see". Reporters who dared to notice his obvious cognitive impairment were excoriated and labelled as able-ist.

The tune has changed. Not even the New York Times admits it. They term his original stroke as "near fatal"- wow, never heard that before!  And also write that.

But his adjustment to serving in the Senate has been made vastly more difficult by the strains of his recovery, which left him with a physical impairment and serious mental health challenges that have rendered the transition extraordinarily challenging — even with the accommodations that have been made to help him adapt...

I wish him nothing but the best on a human level, but he should NEVER have been allowed to continue his campaign.  Shame on those around him who are putting his life and health at risk.

Everyone knew Fetterman was diminished.  The guy could barely talk.  Yet, he still beat Oz.  Says a lot more about the Republican candidate, don't you think?

No doubt.  It says a lot about both the doctor and his campaign that he couldn't get the job done.  Always is a gamble when you go for "celebrity" candidates.

Typical condescension towards a disabled person. What is this nonsense about being 'allowed to continue his campaign"? Maybe he decided it was worth the sacrifice given what was at stake in the election?  At least you've  moved on from comparing him to a vegetable.

And didn't you repeatedly predict Fetterman's defeat in the 2022 midterms?

Perhaps, and also perhaps he was not getting good advice from his team.  Sound medical advice would have been to quit running and take the time to recover as fully as was possible.

It is certain that the truth about the severity of both his stroke and his condition afterwards were hidden from the public.  For some reason, I think a GOP candidate who suffered a "nearly fatal stroke" (to quote the New York Times) would have faced much more pressure to drop out of the race.

Tune out the disingenuous chatter.

It's a good thing Fetterman took the seat.

The democratic side is holding the line against American fascism.

We didn't know whether or not Fetterman could recover quickly enough to keep serving but the most important thing was to hold the seat

Job done. Thanks to Fetterman for his service to help save American democracy.

That seems to be a rather.......fascist.......attitude. "The ends justify the means" and all that. What import is one man's health in comparison to the bigger prize of political power?

You didn't know whether Fetterman could recover because the truth of his condition was hidden from the public, with the active and enthusiastic participation of the media.  Remember the reporter who dared question Fetterman's condition after an interview? She was ridiculed and accused for her troubles.  Wonder when she can expect an apology from her attackers?

No need for all the faux concern over Fetterman’s health.

While it fits in well with the Republican insistence on interfering with other people’s bodily autonomy, it nevertheless misses the point that until the GOP get their hands on the authority to dictate everyone’s health choices it remains Fetterman’s choice.

Never said otherwise, of course it is Fetterman's decision.  But the machinations and manipulations were disgusting. Not sure why you are trying to insert the various abortion related euphemisms into the discussion, unless that is all you have to use.

So the party that elected Marjorie Greene along with Bobart, Gaetz, Santos and other assorted bat shxxt crazy MAGA morons is now concerned that an elected dem might not be up to the job?  Laughable.

Nice deflection attempt. Do try to stay on topic.

Perhaps...? Is that all you've got.

And I think that were it a favored right wing republican candidate who this happened to, their supporters would have endorsed them continuing the race.
