National police chief Damrongsak Kittiprapas has vowed to conduct a fair investigation into allegations that 116 immigration police and over 100 other police officers received bribes from Chinese triads and online gambling operators. Damrongsak emphasised that the investigations will be based on finding the evidence necessary to take action against alleged wrongdoers.

Official complaints have been filed against 116 immigration police in the north-eastern province of Khon Kaen for allegedly taking bribes to allow members of Chinese triads to obtain long-stay visas in Thailand.

However, Damrongsak says he has not yet reviewed the details of the case and questions whether the number of suspects is as high as 116.

In addition to the immigration police allegations, over 100 police officers have been accused of taking bribes from online gambling operators.

Damrongsak confirms that he is cleaning up the police force and has already arrested an alleged online gambling operator who may be linked to a police station chief. However, investigators are still gathering evidence to prove the website is owned by the police chief.

Activist Atchariya Ruangrattanapong alleges that about 100 police officers, including 10 police generals, are involved in illegal online gambling websites. However, Damrongsak insists he needs proof before he can comment on the allegations.

He has called on Atchariya to submit evidence so he can take action and scrutinise potential suspects.

“If we find any officer committing wrongdoing, we’ll take action. It will be better to give evidence to us. We act based on information provided. If the number is as high as 100, we must take action.”

It's rather sad when they have to publicly say there will be a fair investigation...

And will there be a follow up to arrest, fine, blacklist, and deport these triad members?

I guess Damrongsak can make all the promises he wants. But his mandatory retirement is September 2024.

As the outgoing Chief Jongyodsuk is due to retire on September 30, 2023, it would seem that Damrongsak's service as Chief begins October 2023 to run only one year? I don't think that's time enough to oversee massive corruption investigations.

So Wash, Rinse and Recycle?

Note that the RTP Chief is approved by the Police Commission and RTP board with PM Prayut as Chairman?

Corrupt to the very core, led from the top.

The very top.....that we usually ignore or casually ignorant of.

A consciousness of historic corruption as seen through a militaristic/policing state.

A long time protective infrastructure for those of the enlightened circle.
