Some 23 Million Voters To Snub Pro-Prayut Parties, Candidates: Academic

SOME 23 MILLION VOTERS are expected to reject any parties and candidates who may have vowed to endorse Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s design to prolong his rule after an upcoming general election, according to a noted academic.

 

Thammasat University law lecturer Prinya Thaewanarumitkul predicted today (Feb.25) that as many as 23 million voters will ultimately not pick the pro-Prayut parties and constituency-based candidates in the nationwide election.

 

The estimated number of anti-Prayut voters will include some three million first-time voters, Prinya said. About 39 millions out of a total of about 52 million eligible voters are expected to go to the polls tentatively scheduled for May 7, according to the Thammasat law lecturer.

I still don't fully understand the Thai electorial system. If the 250 senators are appointed by (and support) the pro Prayut party then does he only need 126 seats from the 500 voted seats to become PM again?

Could be some/many of the twenty-two MILLION people who applied for Welfare Cards in this last round, up from 14.47 million in the previous round.

 

These are in the 300 - 400 baht month range.

 

However politicians like the TwoPs are promising 700 baht per month after they are (re-) elected.

Yes, that's the current math. But remember there are not 250 senators, I think the current figure is closer to 200 given deaths, and crimes. And a few might not vote for PPP/UTN coalition, assuming they wake up from their naps.

 

The 126 can be made up of more than one party of course. So bifurcating the existing PPP into two entities PPP with Prawit, and United Thai Nation with Prayuth), and dragging BJT along insures the current regime continues.

 

Seems like a waste of time, money and energy to have an election? But they want to pretend it's a democracy so let them play.

Just finished driving home from Chiang Rai and my wife kept telling me about all the cars see noticed with F Prayut stickers on them.

He is hated. He is immensely unpopular. Don't think I have ever heard anyone say a good word about him. The only way he could extend his reign, would be to buy the votes of people completely lacking any vision or perspective.

Would agree that it is about time, but don't think it will ever happen, fortunately, as those that should face the chop are too well protected and it will be those at the lower end of the populus who pay the price, now whether that price is worth it remains to be seen and only the Thai people can make that decision.

buying votes is the go around here. My wife has had offers (varying from cash to other incentives) from every political party candidate to vote for them.
