Thailand could stop all the burning, exhaust, etc and 2.5 and other pollutants would still blow in from adjacent countries. https://www.careourearth.com/persistent-air-pollution-in-asia/ Someone have to start doing something. Hopefully the rest will follow. 1
Elkski Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 I would be very disappointed if I came as a tourist into unhealthy air like this. 1

If folks aren't going to wear N95 masks to help protect themselves from COVID, they certainly should want to be wearing them to protect themselves from THIS kind of unhealthy air in Bangkok and elsewhere! But among the tourist folks I see around BKK lately, very few are. http://aqicn.org/station/thailand/gaia-12/bangkok/#/z/11 I'm actually pleased with that. All those iron lungs tourists filtering our air at least a little bit, else it might be even worse. And by the time they develop cancer, they'll be back to their homes anyway so no need to treat them either. 1

That's the only way they can remain competitive in the world market and how a small county like Thailand remains one of the worlds top rice exporters.
Stargeezr Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Looking at the pollution map, it seems that lots of fires are also happening in Cambodia and Laos. Maybe it is Asia that has a big issue with burning the leaves off of their crops is a problem for all of Asia. Is crop burning also the reason for Dhaka Bangladesh to have a 273 reading, or Patna India to have 237 reading? Just wondering Harvey M
Misty Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Wow, what happened to Bangkok air quality today? It had been steadily improving recently, but today's a huge step backwards. Downtown Bangkok Sukhumvit area is registering well above 100 µg/m3 1 "Why do some places prosper and thrive, while others just suck?" - P.J. O'Rourke

Currently 157 US AQI in Bangkok - worse than Chiang Mai.

You also have the countries that process raw material (like Thailand and China) buying those products from the poorer countries, so they don't have to deal with the pollution. So yes, an Asian problem.
