Burning rubbish set for big fines as Nakhon Phanom smog unbearable

The Northeast city on the banks of the Mekong suffocates under thick haze that landed on Tuesday, Nakhon Phanom is toughening up on residents who burn trash and greenery outdoors.

 

According to the city’s Office of Natural Resource and Environment, PM2.5 concentrations on Wednesday increased to 167 micrograms per cubic metre (mcg) in four districts that border Laos: Muang, Bang Phaeng, Tha Uthen, and That Phanom.

Any level beyond 50 mcg is dangerous, and chronic ailments including lung and heart difficulties have been related to long-term exposure.

That is sad too. Going to Hua Hin for a few days Sunday, hope it is better there..

We just returned from Hua Hin, back to Chiang Mai. The narrow strip of the coast feels mostly pollution free but looking down the coast the near distance soon disappears into a smoggy haze. The AQI numbers also confirm that the air is not exactly crystal, presumably it's air from Bangkok and Cambodia blowing across the gulf. The worst part is the journey there, we drove. Some areas worse than others but all mostly not good. For sure the air quality seems better than here so enjoy your stay away.

Can we make a guess? Or is that just a rhetorical question? And change that from hundreds to thousands...

Unbearable in most parts ...walking my Dogs in East  Pattaya   at Mabrachan lake  their used to be  a bit of greenery there   lots of  bushes, trees,  etc;   used  as a  Bicycle trail,  now its a Black  mess  of burnt tree stumps  mixed in with heaps of plastic garbage and a bad  after burn smell, that must have been    a huge fire/ smoke   recently

Without coming to these drastic solutions it would be that the government starts to make a national law on the ban on burning in the open would be a good start, but I don't see any approach from the politicians in this regard for the next elections, to put the issue under the carpet like the usually they think it is but better solution.

What is the alternative to burning and have they been taught and promoted by govt experts to exactly what is required?

 

Are there too many humans involved in producing and consumption to earn govt fiat to survive and is this the result of the expectations of overpopulated human end consumers who require the end products to enjoy?

 

The basis for all this is always the increasing human needs and wants.
