Controversial department store "zoo" and its most famous gorilla inmate offers 100K reward

The Pata Department Store in Pin Klao, Bangkok, is back in the news over its controversial zoo.

Principally it's about its most famous captive, a 34 year old female gorilla called Bua Noi that has been caged there for years.

They say it's the only gorilla in Thailand.

77kaoded said that Pata produced a six page document outlining their side in the controversy that has seen animal rights groups including artists and celebrities call for the zoo to be shut down and Bua Noi released.

The upshot of the long document was that Pata are offering a 100,000 baht reward for information leading to the arrest of 5 people after damage was done in protests at the store.

Phone numbers were given for people to call.

it is sad. but what do you really do ? releasing it into the wild might not be the best thing for it right ? 

 

damned if you do damned if you dont sort of thing. 

 

although maybe the owner should be housed in the same cage from now on. that may be a start.

Of course not.. would not last long in the wilds of Bangkok. 

I was thinking she could be given to some zoo with far superior facilities for her.... surprised to read she is the only gorilla in Thailand... she is in need of company.

Gorillas live in family groups ,keeping a solitary one on its own

is beyond the pale , I remember seeing this Gorilla there ,must be

25 years ago ,it did not look happy then ,it's criminal that its been

kept in a department store for all that time.

Silly post - there are lot's of Gorilla organisations with wonderful facilities. To even think of intimating "no choice' is absurd.

Why don't Thais boycott this shopping center ?   That would soon get some action to re-house the ape in a more friendly controlled animal reserve .... 

 

I guess as usual,  thai's don't care.
