webfact
Senator Upakit Pachariyangkun By Thai PBS World’s Political Desk Thailand’s justice system was forced to swing into damage control mode after a series of disclosures pointed to senior judges and police officers attempting to spare a senator prosecution for alleged drug trafficking and money laundering after the arrest of Myanmar arms dealer Tun Min Latt. Supreme Court President Chotiwat Luengprasert has ordered an investigation into whether senior judges at the Criminal Court had abused their power to cancel the arrest warrant issued for Senator Upakit Pachariyangkun last year. A fact-finding committee was set up recently to gather information from all relevant sources for the Supreme Court judge within 30 days, according to the Court of Justice’s spokesperson, Sorawit Limparangsri. The panel has no authority to interrogate any responsible persons in accordance with the penal code, he said. The senator was accused of having engaged in business dealings with Tun Min Latt, who was arrested together with three Thai nationals last September and indicted in December for drug trafficking and money laundering. Let my repeat that: "The panel has no authority to interrogate any responsible persons in accordance with the penal code", he said. So they are outright saying that the panel will do nothing??!!! Popular Post spidermike007
All of this reminds one of 15th century England. Imagine how hard it must have been to accuse someone like Thomas Stanley, in the court of Henry VII? Upakit and these judges are about as untouchable as the most powerful men of the House of Tudor, York, and the House of Lancaster. Another solution is required, to arrest the rot in the system. One which is beyond the law. 7

Yes, the big families (Agro-businesses) are linked to a large portion of the burning in Myanmar as well. Nothing can touch them ... 1 1

Sure is. A rich history of connections, actually. And very very high up links. This particular circle was always somewhat finding admiration in the decades long Burman repression/control. The system is rotten to the core. Only the people can reform this mess. 1

True. But we only require a solid 35-40% to pull of the successful "people's coup".....

Guess you think as I do, a real peoples coup is needed in Thailand or alternately a strong man military take-over in the interests of the people - - not for themselves as has been the case in the history of military coups. Ideally bloodless but brutal in cleaning out the of heirachy who have been in control for far too long. We can only wish.
