F1's Nelson Piquet must pay £780,000 after racist and homophobic Lewis Hamilton comments

Brazil's triple Formula One champion Nelson Piquet must pay £780,000 in damages for making racist and homophobic comments about Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton.

 

In an interview in November 2021, Piquet used a racial slur referring to the seven-time world champion, when commenting on Hamilton's British Grand Prix crash with Max Verstappen. Piquet's daughter Kelly is the partner of Hamilton's rival, Verstappen.

 

The 69-year-old former racer was said to have used language that's equivalent or similar to the N-word.

I hate it when nobody writes what he actually said.

I clicked on the link and another link and another link but still no quote.

What is so difficult about writing he said "xyz"? And best not just that sentence but a little before and after to get an idea what it is all about.

 

These days too many people are cancelled because they are accused of saying something bad. And it's all over the news that they said something bad. But what did they actually say, and was it really so bad?

It was a Brazilian court. The charges were made by human rights groups, not Lewis. It's all in the linked article.

It wasn’t F1 that fined him, it was a Brazilian Court, refer linked article.
