Flying out to several countries while waiting for student visa

Featured Replies

Dear all,

I contact several language schools. They say that once I apply for student visa, I have to ask permission or give notice to school to fly out to several countries while waiting for, at least 45 days ( some schools say even ed visa approval take 90 days!) student visa approval.

I want to use that 45 days to go to several countries.

It is a bit odd because I am NOT on student visa officially.

What does the immigration rule say about leaving Thailand temporary for holidaying to Singapore, Taiwan, etc, while waiting for [ in country]student visa approval?

Thailand does not care about you waiting for a student visa approval, hence such rules do not exist.

There might be some confusion, because there are two steps.

While waiting for the letter from the Ministry of Education, you should be free to travel anywhere, and this could even be done while outside Thailand (in case of applying for the initial Non-Ed visa at a Thai embassy or consulate).

If you apply locally at immigration, on the other hand, there's an under consideration period of a few weeks until the visa is issued. If you need to travel during that time, you need a re-entry permit. That's probably best avoided.
