Blackberry

Featured Replies

Hi one and all

Im having a blackberry sent over from the UK, which I hope to get unlocked. Does anyone know in laymans terms what package i have to go for, and with which provider? I have a feeling it may be available on the EDGE network... does that sound right?

Many thanks

SKO

Believe AIS have a Blackberry specific package. Sorry can't be more help, the idea of being forced to read my email is just too depressing. :o

Regards

I have a blackberry with AIS, its unlimited Data and costs I think either 500 or 800 baht a month. It's on Edge but I don't think they will be too happy putting it on an unlocked phone. Make sure to get IDD and International Roaming services as well, else you can't even call out the country.

what are the charges if you take it overseas?

Don't know, haven't done it yet. I'd hope that data was included on teh already paid for Thai plan.

Is the AIS package prepaid or postpaid? If postpaid, how do you get on postpaid without a work permit?

I managed to get a post paid AIS account a couple of years ago without a WP. I just went into AIS on Sukhumvit in Bangkok armed with my bank book, TOT phone bill, Thai driving license, non imm o visa and Condo ownership papers. I was asked for a WP but told them I didn't have one as I didn't work in Thailand. Fortunatelty that day, common sense prevailed after a supervisor was called in and ok'ed it all.

Guys,

Currently, AIS will charge you 850 per month with unlimited access to GPRS or EDGE connectoin. It is POSTPAID service and you will have to have postpaid account with AIS. It includes BlackBerry Service with this plan, so you can use the BlackBerry Device with the service. I am not sure about the oversea devices, but AIS do sell BlackBerry devices in Thailand or you can use some pocketPC phone with BB service - i am using Dopod D810 with BB service. To sign up with the service, i am not sure about the rule for NONE Thai, but you will only need your ID for Thai to open POSTPAID account and activate BB service with unlimited GPRS/EDGE connection.

Hope this will help.
