Visa Exemption Documents & Requirements for German Family

Hello,

part of my Family from Germany is visiting me next week in Thailand.

They coming on a "Visa Exemption " 

 

I try to find what kind of documents they need, I'm sure they have looked it up by themselves already, but I want to make sure they have a smooth entrance and avoid any possible problems.

I'm sorry I couldn't find a link to a website which is uptodate or a similar topic. So If someone would have a link it would be a good start.

 

- Do they need to show 20.000,- baht as a family or every person?

- Every person must pay 2000,- baht for the Visa Exemption on arrival.

- They from Germany so they don't need to show a a covid pass or health insurance.

- Every person must have and show the hotel booking confirmation and flight return ticket when they show up at the immigration desk? Or do they need that only once as a family? 

 

And did I miss something?

They don't need to show anything.

Cash in any currency equivalent to 20k in total would be sensible as a family. 

 

The airline at departure from Germany may ask for proof of onward/return ticket.

There are options to cover that. 

 

They don't need to show hotel reservations. Having address of a hotel a good idea. 

 

How long is the holiday in Thailand

Absolutely NOT. No fee.

 

Being asked to show financials for Germans is extremely rare.

They don't like beggars or homeless I assume.

Never experienced from 1994 to 2011.

(never asked for at land border)

Never mentioned by any mates/families arriving from Germany,

 

Good to have a return or onward booking within 30 days after arrival.

But also very unlikely to be asked at immigration.

Only the airline looks for that and much more likely,

 

Passports for all persons required even for children.

Whether it has to be valid for at least 6 months is a disputed topic.

No, Visa Exemption (VE) is free.

Only required to be valid to cover period of stay for immigration at arrival in Thailand.

However the airline may have their own rule re "valid for minimum 6 months.

Have the family take her through "fast track" immigration desk.

They will be fine

Make sure they DON'T walk to the "Visa on Arrival" hall.

This is for a few dedicated nationalities and includes a fee.

 

They have to follow the crowds directly to the immigration checkpoints.

A visa exemption and a visa on arrival are completely different animals. As German citizens, they are eligible for visa exemptions (i.e. entering without a visa) which costs nothing. The 2,000 baht fee is applicable only for nationals of countries that cannot receive visa exemptions, but are allowed to queue up and buy a tourist visa on arrival at the airport.
