Last group of refugees from Myanmar repatriated

The last group of 89 refugees, who fled the recent fighting in Myanmar near the Thailand’s western border, has been sent back to their homeland by the Thai army.

 

Maj-Gen Sirichan Ngathong, deputy spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, said today (Thursday) that the voluntary repatriation of the refugees, from a temporary shelter in Mae Sot district of Tak province, has put an end to the army’s mission to provide safety and safe refuge to more than 12,000 refugees housed in 15 temporary shelters in Mae Sot and Mae Ramat districts of Tak, which are close to the Myanmar border.

 

She said that many of the refugees, who fled recent offensives by Myanmar troops against rebel forces entrenched in border areas, have steadily returned to Myanmar of their own volition when they realised that the fighting had abated.

safe to go back to myanmar ? really ? the place is a black hole that the world has forgotten about. 

 

if these people don't qualify as refugees western countries are beacons of hope in comparison with their refugee policies.

Less than appropriate analysis, less than caring, less than intelligent comment...  All from an official high ranking spokesperson.

 

I've taught hundreds of young Myanmar late teenagers / early twenties uni students in Thai universities. All of them highly intelligent balanced young folks, keen students, poite, well behaved, good grades, all focused on their studies.

 

A couple of years back several of them, all came from the same district that folks in their families were sought out and murdered by the rouge army.

 

Why, because it had been discovered they were studying in Bkk on UN scholarships. So their families were punished by being murdered.

 

My heart yearns for them.

 

And the same age Thais in the classes had no interest whatever in the Burmese students, they ignored them, they avoided having to work with the always high performing  Burmese students. And 90% of the Thai students were totally unaware of what's happening across the border.

 

And just 2 weeks ago, video footage on Thai news services showing the Thai PM rushing to meet, hug, embrace the leader of the Burmese ilitary.

 

The military brotherhood, sickening.

 

And especially when you're aware of the supposed hate for the Burmese miitary in regad to the wars between Thailand and Burma 200 years ago.

The State and Sangha are hand in glove in Thailand.

 

They run the place, which likes to boast of it's commitment to Buddhist principles.

 

It's not dumb semi-Buddhist, tree worshiping, lucky numbers for the lottery peasants that are doing this.

 

This is being done by a combined  entity that is absolutely and firmly convinced that it is the flag-bearer of Buddhism "at its best".

 

What **** they are, what complete and utter ***** they are.

Myanmar has been forgotten by the world.  So many atrocities committed in that country yet the Thai government turns a blind eye to it.
