It's not like you drop dead of it. To be in a near death state he wouldn't have been up and about, now would he!

I don't think one should link the man's death to the new Covid variant or even Covid at this point. As pointed out earlier in the thread, the article does not actually say that the man's death was caused by Covid - just that he had died and also apparently tested positive for Covid.

 

They (Thairat?) have speculated that he was infected with the new Omicron subvariant XBB. 1.16 due to having a fever, having tested positive for Covid and having red eyes.

 

They (thainewsroom article) actually make it clear in both the headline and in the body of the text that they are not sure at this moment if he had the new variant but that they are speculating that he did. 

 

"Myanmar Man Found Dead, Likely Infected With New Omicron Strain"

"it is likely he had caught the new Omicron strain which affects the eyes too." 

 

It's pretty obvious to a careful reader. Less careful readers might easily infer something different and perhaps become alarmed.

I'm so scared. I'm shaking. I can't hold my razor straight.  How will I continue life? The masked and gowned medical people look so frightening.

Or he died due to some other cause. Jump to conclusions much?!? Many ways to die and this does not even come close to the most likely one.
