Accelerating melt of ice sheets now 'unmistakable'

If you could shape an ice cube out of all the ice losses from Greenland and Antarctica over the past three decades, it would stand 20km high.

An international group of scientists who work with satellite data say the acceleration in the melting of Earth's ice sheets is now unmistakable.

They calculate the planet's frozen poles lost 7,560 billion tonnes in mass between 1992 and 2022.

IMO the brakes don't work anyway. IMO it's more about making money than about actually doing anything.

Better start learning how to deal with the effects, rather than going to junkets in 5 star resorts to have a long chat about it.

I'm not sure how fighting climate change does anything except cost money. The rich are the ones trying their hardest not to do anything. You know, like fossil fuel companies making record profits.

I don't see anything about "fighting climate change". What I see is a few people making a lot of money by using "climate change" to scare people.

IMO we could stop using any fossil fuel today and it wouldn't make an iota of difference. Damage is done already and can't be undone, IMO.

how are they making money or is that just some unfounded presumption? Surely not the old government grants canard again? You sheeple are really being led along by the nose by the rich fossil fuel companies who tell you not to believe your lying eyes. Not even do some research because the search engines are corrupt and the scientists all on the gravy train, lying to everyone. Kinda religious like, if you're not a believer you're going to hell and damnation.

Strange reply.

It's like most of the vehicles on the planet are electric and ICEs are a minority.

Fossil fuel was the thing that allowed the human race to advance beyond horses and whale oil. Without fossil fuel most in cities would starve.

That's not going to change any time soon, if ever before the oil actually runs out, IMO.

"Better start learning how to deal with the effects"

They are, read the IPCC reports

It will change before 2030. You sound like the guys who said cars will never replace horses.

Q: What steps are you taking to stop climate change?

A: None, like all the other alarmists.

So while you claim not to be ignorant, you are apathetic which is just as bad!

I don't have a vehicle, I live where I can walk everywhere.

I vote for politicians who vow to support action to combat climate change.

I'd say that's far more effective than anything you're doing since you're intent on playing oneupmanship games with every poster who supports action against climate change.

Don’t expect any change soon. To meet IPCC targets would require the entire planet to be net zero by 2030 and vastly net negative by 2050. Even then temperatures growth relative to pre industrial conditions would likely exceed +4 C with some chance of cooling it down to +1.5 C by the end of the century.

It simply won’t happen. Anybody that tells you it will is feeding you propaganda. Globally we’re still increasing our carbon output every year and almost certainly will continue beyond 2030. This year new oil and gas development expenditures will exceed $100 billion. Projects that will be profitable for the next 20 to 50 years.

Believing that we’ll somehow reverse climate change is like believing the naked emperor is actually wearing fine new silk clothes.

You keep reciting the same ploy over and over again. Namely, when the facts are against you, make it personal.

You've got next to nothing.

Ice sheets melting. Bad for Earth. Future looks bleak......meh......enjoy today

Al Gore, 2008: "the entire North polar ice cap may well be completely gone in five years."

Al Gore, 2009: "a 75% chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during some of the summer months, could be completely ice-free within the next five to seven years."

Once again deflecting from the actual science. You've got nothing.

Do these international scientists have names? Are they gov't employees? The little video of what Greenland would look like with no ice is for a 5 year old.

For our own sake, we need the money wheel running, if not Armageddon in the west. Time for us to team up, stay together instead of working against each other, and the more totalitarian states win! We are loosing the battle because of internal conflicts.

If any of the people denying climate change and the disastrous consequences of it for future generations have children, I weep for your kids.
