Popular Post onthedarkside Posted April 22, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 22, 2023 The Texas Senate on Thursday passed a bill that would require the prominent display of the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms, reigniting a debate over the role of religion in schools and parental rights. The measure, sponsored by Republican state Sen. Phil King, states that every public elementary or secondary school must "display in a conspicuous place in each classroom of the school a durable poster or framed copy of the Ten Commandments" starting in September. The Senate passed the bill in a 17-12 vote along party lines. It now heads to the GOP-led House. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/ten-commandments-required-public-schools-texas-bill-rcna80936 2 5

But if they did that would make them "woke." ARGHHHHHHH!!!! A few days ago DeSantis gave a campaign speech where he used that word so many times that news anchors in the US are laughing, I think the best score so far is 12 times within 20 seconds. Ron DeSantis Mocked After ‘Buzzword Diarrhea Of The Mouth’ Rant Against ‘Woke’ As for the Ten Commandments I would expect Texas to be more inclined toward The Golden Calf. Barbecued, of course. 2 1 2

Amazed they didn't just standardize the exact location, size, font, frame style? I think that Texas also mandates (by law) that students must recite both the pledge of allegience to the U.S flag and a separate pledge to the Texas flag.
Popular Post bendejo Posted April 23, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 23, 2023 What about that bearing false witness business? Makes things pretty inconvenient for the politicians, no? Forbidding adultery and coveting? Who wants to be hearing about that all the time? Definitely not the senators! IMO the people who make big fuss about this stuff, and express their piousness with bravado, are the ones to be suspicious of. 2 1 1
thaibeachlovers Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Does anyone dispute that it's a good idea not to kill other people or covet neighbour's wives? Perhaps they don't want to respect their parents, or is the problem with having a day off once a week? Why the fuss anyway. It's not a big deal, and they won't be checking up on anyone to see if they are obeying or not. 1 2 1

Do you not agree that religion should be kept away from government and state issues? They could easily (and do) teach that killing is wrong without reference to religion. It's a common delusion among the religious that religion is central to ethical living. It's a huge deal that the state is pushing religion into state schools. 4 1 2

This from a REPUBLICAN state, which supported Trump, who has broken just about every commandment there is, and some They are probably too dumb to see how hypocritical this is. 4 3

I don't know much about Texas law but I assume that killing and stealing are already illegal there. Shouldn't it be up to the individual who s/he worships and when to rest? 42 minutes ago, thaibeachlovers said: Why the fuss anyway. If the law isn't going to be enforced then it is certainly unnecessary. In any event, @ozimoron has identified the bigger issue: There should be a separation between religion and state. 1 1 3

Despite popular belief among religious nut-jobs, Christianity didn't invent morality (which should be immediately obvious, considering it's history of bloodshed and child raping). Christianity has no place in public schools. 4 1
AndyFoxy Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 In my opinion, these six are just about being a good person. If they took out the religious ones, and had the 6 commandments instead, that would be better. Honor your father and your mother. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet. 1
Pink Mist Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 So will the Separation of Church and State become illegal in Texas as they force this to be taught to all students regardless of there religious beliefs? Will the constitution be trampled on once again? https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_church_and_state_in_the_United_States&ved=2ahUKEwizxJmiyL_-AhUiAjQIHZvQBWIQFnoECDQQAQ&usg=AOvVaw3opEjmets0qnMzZt2U_vFn 2

Popular Post ballpoint Posted April 23, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 23, 2023 Funny how, to these people, the second amendment is an iron clad, never to be revoked, fundamental part of the constitution, and how dare you question it! Yet the separation of church and state enshrined in the first amendment, and also the Bill of Rights, is some fuzzy guideline to be trodden underfoot when it suits their own religious beliefs. (Funny too this should be about the 10 commandments, when you look at who starred in the movie of the same name, and his role later in life.) 4

Popular Post jak2002003 Posted April 23, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 23, 2023 One of those 10 commandments is you should not kill. So they will be abolishing the death penalty? And also no more wars or soldier's? And no more guns? If they do all that, then I'm happy to let them have the 10 commandment shiny posters in the classrooms. 3 1
