We can fly that cheap because of the other subsidising our fares by flying business and first class ????

Welcome. I think Rynair for example does not even offer first class - its all wood class and if you are lucky you get a bottle of drinking water or a sandwich - for which you have to pay extra I suppose.

There is already a 700b departure tax.

An RD questionairre implies they would like to create a new tax.

So, following on from the 300b tourist tax thats likely coming soon, it appears this government is desperate for cash.

This tax is only for Thais and Permanent Residents. If you're a tourist or staying on some sort of extension, you are not a resident or a PR. It will not affect you. It will, however, hit some Thais pretty hard, if it goes into effect.

Interesting. We are talking about flights that leave Thailand. I am not aware of any flight abroad that is in the price range of 1000 THB. Please just tell me only one. I would like to learn. We do usually fly Business Class to far away destinations and then 1000 is near to nothing. I guess even to Vietnam or Cambodia or Laos flying in the baggage compartment it must be more. But maybe I am really wrong. Just tell me one flight abroad in this price range please.

before airport tax, the cost to fly to siem reap right now is around 900 baht
the 700 baht TAX would make the total paid around 1600 baht
add another 1000 baht TAX, bringing TAX total to 1700 baht
so you are paying 2600 baht for a 900 baht flight
That would make 65% of the cost is TAX

That is all we have to go on, what is discussed in places like the Bangkok Post. It could be wrong. It might change. The entire idea might be scrapped.

They can say whatever they like before it actually happens
one thing i cannot see is Thais being charged this tax and not foreigners
IF it ever comes to fruition, which does not seem likely as it is imo
what is their definition of a permanent resident?
(i know what it is for most of us)
and how would this tax be collected if it only applies to certain people?

Incredible. Yes this is a huge increase. In %. Not in actual money. But this is a view fro my own perspective - I must admid that. For a family of 5 with low income it might be desastrous. ????

Why should they tax inbound funds which have already been taxed at source?

Have you not heard of the dual taxation agreements between countries?

I know you have been here a long time but this post of your is just plain stupid.

Little Ghosts are illegal workers who hide away in countries such as Korea.

They have no work visas or permits and so they do not pay any local taxes.

My GFs older sister has been in Korea for going on 7 years now.  She arrived there on a short stay tourist visa and then ran away up in to the mountain to find work.  She has a good gig.  Her own little cottage at a very scenic farm up in the mountains.  The family she works for take good care of her and she has never felt threatend or unsafe.  The work she does on the vegetable farm is boring and repetive but not heavy.

She earns a small fortune (when compared to Thai wages) and saves every satang.  She is currently having a new 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house built on the families land for 1.4 million.

She has absolutely no intention of coming back to Thailand until she is caught and deported.

How does she get her cash earnings out of Korea ?

It's 700.

And it's an 'airport tax' to pay for the upkeep of Thailand's airports (similar to airport taxes in other countries), unlike the Revenue Department's proposed exit fee of 1,000 baht, officially to be introduced (maybe) to 'curb excessive spending of Thai residents: citizens and expats', but IMHO just a money-grab to fleece travellers.

Just read in the Thai press that this is only supposed to be an opinion poll and it is not the idea to implement it. I may not name the source because of Forum Rules.

At the source a link to the poll/website was displayed, but I couldn't find it. Hope, the people taking part have so much brains to vote against it. Doesn't mean that a future government could not like the idea and push through with it nonetheless.

The farmer transfers it from his bank account to the bank account of my GF.  The GF then transfers a monthly amount to Mum and Dad and other periodic or one off payments. Then sends photo of bank book updates to Sis.

Older Sister's kid lives with Mum and Dad.  He is 14 or so now and already been in trouble with the plods for stealing from his school and drugs.

I have warned the GF endlessly that this arrangement could end in tears one day if the Government seeks to tax (and back tax) incoming payments to her account.  But I have been told to butt out because it is her family.  So the issue has now been filed firmly in the not my problem basket.  This is just one of many examples why I would never marry in Thailand.

What the family wants always take precedence over what the farang wants.

To the best of my knowledge quoting the following link (which a Google search has unearthed) is acceptable under forum rules - although I'm not sure whether it is the source you had in mind:-

I'm curious if this is in effect a Cambodian casino tax? Would it be active overland? This would explain comments about spending money abroad.

How misguided haha

My wife says she's heard about this and it includes Thais. I believe a few posts above also infer. Ludicrous.
