Try and walk into any authorised Rolex dealer world wide and try and get any Rolex, let alone a desirable  model which may have a few years waitlist for favoured clients.

...  The second hand market on these watches is always higher than RRP.

yes.. because it would be worth all the effort of reporting the theft of a knock off watch to the police, right ?  :whistling:

Could be yes would depend on what is not detailed.

I don't even understand why people need to wear a watch nowadays.

So it can be stolen ?

Yup, it’s located between the Honest Taxi Driver and Yellow Book forums.

In the Bollex sub-forum ?

My guess is she did not live in the condo but was a guest of someone else and he caught her on her way out originally and obtained her contact info. Just supposition on my part.  Why travel with high end watches or even wear gold out and about.  Prime targets.

And a shower in the middle of the night? Did he mean when they got in from being out, or he just always gets up and showers in the middle of the night, I am a little confused with this part......

He'd just got out from being in.

Like a knock-off of a knock-off statement?

Especially when you can buy them for 600 baht in Laos. And you have to take them apart to tell them from a pukka one.

These people wear them to show off. Perhaps they are more accurate than the time on ya mobile!

You always shower with your watch on? sleep ???

I’d assume most people take their watch on....     some silly thoughts on here so far - the owner was just careless with his belongs and got ripped off... thats about it.

Shower with it on. Sleep with it on. Only take it off to give the stainless strap a clean, change the date, or to give it a wind now and then.

So they know what time it is?

'What time is it Eccles'.  'Just a minute my good fellow, I got it writted down here on a piece of paper'.

Compliments of the 'Goons'.

There's one born every minute.

To leave your personal belongings with a stranger is just asking for trouble.

This is absolute nonsense....

The 600 Laos specials are terrible copies and you just have to look at one let alone hold one.

Now the so-called 'superclones' are getting very good, and even attemp at copying the movement  - Superclones cost 700 - 1200 USD

So you take a woman you know nothing about to your room and your things are not locked away?

Som nam naa.

but why would a lady of the night risk getting caught stealing a 600 baht watch?

can't spot a knock-off?

If i owned the insurance company i would be reluctant to pay out in this case. Leaving a 900,000 baht watch unattended with a Lady of The Night in Pattaya is as irresposible as not wearing a motorbike helmet when drunk without a licence on a bangkok motorway.

Maybe he should set up a Go Fund Me like all the Brit motorcyle crashers.

I'd like to start a Go Fund Me, but I'm still trying to think of a unique reason that would attract the sympathy and plenty of money.????

They looked OK to me. And my friend - is an expert on watches - said they were professionally made.

But, I've never been a watch wearer, and anyway was after a 'satellite phone, for the same money.

Let's look at it from another angle (not that I believe this story, anyway).

Even a dupe Rolex has value to a thief but they'd never be certain of authenticity without a professional valuation.

Some of these 'knock off's - as you put it STF - are so good. It takes a skilled watchman to open them up to look inside to determine whether they are the real deal or not.

Don't know where they are made. Probably Formosa or China.

You would have to pay me to wear a watch; and double to wear a Rolex. In saying that, i did buy one in Lidl for 2 quid once. Battery went flat after a week.

That depends....  Now some of the models discontinued this year are predicted to increase in value.

The Steel Daytona is one which is predicted to increase from approximately US$30,000 to about US$45,000....

Of course, no one knows the future... but for sure, for the past 10 years owning such watches has been a far better investment than many others and certainly better than leaving money in the bank.

Now... IF only I could find a couple of Rolexes for RRP from an authorised dealers.

These new "superclones" are becoming more & more sophisticated in terms of the actual movements inside - Turkey is the new place for this particular industry with specialist factories being set up everywhere - People are going on business trips to Turkey & making large orders to ship back home.

Given she stole it whilst he was in the shower its highly probable he was not wearing it !!

... Fake watches are made in Guangzhou (China) to extraordinarily high standards such that the only way to tell is to open them up and look at the movement...  These go for about 2-3000 baht (on Lazada).

I’ve not seen the Super-clones with identical movements, that would be quite interesting.

You're projecting....   That maybe why ‘you’ would wear a nice watch because thats the only reason you can consider you would wear one.

For other people, they just wear nice things because they like them, its the same for cars, clothes etc...

Its always the same in theses threads - Someone has a nice watch, someone drives a German car and someone pipes up stating that its only to impress others without any understanding whatsoever.

Or make such statements...

Yes... because idiots and wealth go so very hand in hand, right ???

Are you suggesting that those who are not pretentious at all would never own such a watch ?

You see... such sweeping generalisations only serve to highlight flaws in your own outlook.
