An interesting strategy given that the US is about to hit it's debt ceiling.

Borrow more money (hopefully), then give it away. With fiscal prudence like that, it becomes clear why the US is over 31 trillion in debt.

Well, believe it or not it is also possible for Congress to raise taxes. Like back where they were before the George Bush giveaway.

Tax rises don't tend to win votes. Hence the raising of the debt ceiling in order to give money away to Ukraine.

Then when they need to buy long term votes, Biden can just use some of that borrowed money to write off student debt. Nice work, if you can get it.

Actually, raising taxes on the wealthy is a very popular idea in the USA. Even among Republicans. But the Republican politicos primary clients disapprove.

US taxpayer, I'm sure they are thrilled?

Yes

One year on, US support remains strong for Ukraine

One year on, the U.S. public perception of Ukraine also remains strong. According to a recent Gallup poll, 69 percent of surveyed Americans believed that the United States should continue providing aid to Ukraine. In a similar survey conducted by the Chicago Council on Global Relations, nearly three-quarters of Americans believe that the United States should continue to send economic and defense aid to Ukraine. These results suggest that most Americans continue to support Ukraine, and that there is strong backing for this Eastern European state.

My big complaint about US Ukraine policy is out of fear of Putin's threats, we won't announce that we are comited to support Ukraine to WIN the war defined as kicking out Russia of all occupied lands including Crimea.

Well, that is now north of $100 BILLION poured away on this misbegotten conflict.   Imagine what could have been done in the US with that money- the roads that could be repaired, the children fed, the facilities to help the indigent... but no. Far more important to posture and pose in a useless conflict to support a country that is not at all important.

But think of all the opportunities for smug, self congratulatory back slapping at those Champagne dinner parties.

You can't put a price on that...

Ukraine has now been given more money than the annual budgets of the following US government departments:

Dept of Interior

EPA

State Department

Dept of Justice

...and 4 TIMES the budget of NASA

Becauseif the govt hadn't appropriate these funds for Ukraine, then that money would  have gone to these departments instead?

Agree! spending to protect another country’s warring efforts!

With no mentioning of negotiations of a peace!

Of course not. Just highlighting the scale of spending that is being done to prop up the green shirted gremlin.  With a soaring national debt, adding the equivalent of another entire department is madness.  Especially when the money being borrowed is probably coming from communist China.

It says a lot about you and nothing about Zelensky that you would call him a green shirted gremlin. But even if you had just used his actual name, your comment would merely have been baseless, instead of baseless and insulting. Are you seriously claiming that Zelensky doesn't have overwhelming support from the Ukrainian people?

Given that Ukraine is really not a free country, and does not have a free press, it is difficult to tell how popular he truly is.  In a war situation, people will naturally support their leader no matter what kind of person he is.

But no matter what, he has no reason at all to try and negotiate a settlement. If he does, the gravy train will stop. It is growing close to $200 billion- this is more than double the yearly defence budget of Russia.
