It is still clearly understood that they may well still be in power two months after losing the election.

 

It is clearly understood that the incumbent government may remain in power at least nominally if the appointed Senate does their bidding.

 

It is clearly understood that the latter scenario will provoke a constitutional crisis when the elected house opposes the government. It is also clearly understood that such a constitutional crisis will provide the opportunity to indefinitely prolong the incumbent government and excuse authoritarian rule.

 

Reform to establish the principle of the supremacy of the elected parliament in forming a government is a principal policy of the party which won the election - Move Forward.

 

There actually is a very simple and very  obvious binary choice - which is understood by all. Either the decision of the electorate prevails, and the election winners form a government, or it is denied and an unexpected government is installed. This election has blown away the smoke and broken the mirrors. 

 

What remains to be seen is how the Thai people, politicians and electorate react if there choice is denied.

When Thaksin's parties were banned, the establishment only had to worry about red shirts being bussed in from the north-east and north. They had to be paid, fed and find a park to camp at. Quite a logistic exercise.

But MF are prominent in urban areas, in Bangkok they hold 32 out of 33 seats. They could protest, paralyse Bangkok easily if Pita is banned.

Jim, you're so naive. Of course they deny, didn't Prayuth deny he'd ever hold a coup?

Look at it this way, the establishment hate Pita and MF. Pheu Thai are smarting from MF beating them. Thaksin controls PT and is desperate to come in from the desert. The sand gets in your eyes after a while.

Now, if MF form a government as proposed, there will be no amnesty for him, no quick deal.

Now who could ease his way back?

Pravit with his connections to senators, etc.

Anuthin too, has connections going way back.  

But it would be foolish of these parties to make a move until/unless Pita is banned.

Yesterday someone asked the proposed government to sign a future MOU where they would go into opposition together if Pita is banned.. The idea was shot down 

PT are just waiting for Pita to be banned to propose Settha as PM.

The question is how loud will the scream of the butterfly ( MF) be if Pita is banned?
