webfact Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Photo from Daily news Nattapong Westwood A lucky woman in Chon Buri found a valuable pearl inside a large oyster purchased from a local market. The resident, Thevalee Sitonwong, discovered the stunning orange pearl while preparing a meal for her and her husband. Thevalee revealed that she and her husband had gone to the market to buy some ingredients for their dinner, which included a popular Thai dish named Som Tum. They bought two large oysters, intending to cook them as part of their meal. As per usual, Thevalee cleaned and boiled the oysters before serving, and just as they began to eat, her husband bit down on something hard within the oyster’s flesh. At first, they thought it was just a stone, but upon further inspection, they realised that it appeared to be a unique kind of pearl. Although they were not sure if it was genuine, the couple was excited and pleased to have discovered such a remarkable treasure. Thevalee plans to find the time to visit a specialist in Bangkok to confirm the pearl’s authenticity. However, the 33 year old is certain that she will not sell it, choosing instead to keep it as a memento. Celsius Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Decided to google. Hardly priceless An oyster pearl's worth depends on various factors, such as quality and significance. Oyster pearl prices can range from $20 to $5,000 or more per pearl. 2

brucegoniners Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 She won't sell it, even if it's worth a fortune? She might want to think twice about that. Could change her and her entire family's lives.

Now google “melo pearl” as it appears that is what they may have found. *further information provided shows it wasn’t a Melo pearl 1

Not sure about that: Quote Melo pearls come from the melo melo snail, a marine gastropod from the Volutidae family. WHAT’S A MELO MELO PEARL AND WHY IS IT SO VALUABLE?

There was mention in the story about another couple finding an orange Melo Pearl so I assumed (wrongly) that was what they had found.

Liverpool Lou Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 "Priceless"? Yeah, right. Almost valueless, more likely. 1 1 1

newnative Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Let's watch the headline hype. Worth something. . . maybe. 'Priceless'. . . not a chance.

schultzlivgthai Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Or sell it to fix the husbands cracked tooth that will be hurting soon????
Rayafa Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Or is it advertising for tourists? Then we wait for new news. A woman from China went swimming in the sea and tripped over a bar of gold. An Australian farmer marries a bar girl who turns out to be the daughter of a Bangkok millionaire. Or an investor from Russia bought an apartment and during the renovation found a scattering of diamonds in a concrete screed.
