I am wondering if anyone could give the benefit of their knowledge about getting a UK student / education visa for a Thai friend of mine.

Situation is as follows:

• Thai National is 28 and wants to explore the world before he is 30!

• Currently has a professional job in an office that he is getting sick of

• Has a degree (BA) in architecture.

• Has savings

• As I live in the UK I am willing to act as a sponsor whilst he is here.

He isn’t too sure what he wants to do course wise, he quite likes the idea of working with children which is completely different from what he is qualified to do. I have also maybe suggested he thinks about MA or Post grad in Architecture.

I have asked him to visit the British Council in Bangkok to talk things through with them, as to options available.

After that I’m not too sure what happens, or how easy it is to apply to UK universities and their fees, or how easy / hard it is to get scholarships. Can anyone give me the benefit of their wisdom?

Before he applies for the student visa, your friend should have enrolled on a course with a recognised educational institution. He will need to demonstrate that the course is relevant to him and that it will improve his employment prospects in Thailand. Additionally, he will need to show that he can meet the cost of the course and his upkeep either from his own resources or those of a sponsor. He will also need to show that his English is good enough for him to be able to follow a Masters course. Fees vary from course to course, university to university, but for a one-year Masters you might be looking at anything up to £10,000.00 tuition fees.

Scouse.
